Job Summary

Living Well Consortium is recruiting a Senior Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner to support the delivery of our Talking Therapies service under the NHS Talking Therapies programme in Birmingham and Solihull.


Key Responsibilities

* Assist with the development, support and training of innovative practice within NHS Talking Therapies.
* Provide line management to a small team of clinical staff.
* Deliver case management and clinical supervision to trainees and PWPs.
* Carry out clinical quality audits ensuring high quality in LWC TT services, both centrally and within LWC providers.
* Ensure KPIs are met and monitor the performance of the service.
* Ensure clients are allocated appropriately based on assessment evidence and receive the most appropriate treatment, therapist, and provider.
* Assess and support people with common mental health problems in the self‑management of their recovery.
* Undertake patient‑centred interviews to identify areas for change or recovery and make accurate risk assessments.
* Maintain a small caseload of clients.
* Offer shadowing opportunities and peer support to PWPs and trainees employed by LWC.
* Support the delivery of Silvercloud services, including uploading suitable clients to the online mental health platform.
* Oversee the wellbeing call service, occasionally supporting with wellbeing calls when required.
* Support with clinical queries across LWC, including from referral teams and qualified practitioners.
* Make decisions on suitability of new referrals, adhering to service referral protocols, and refer unsuitable clients to the relevant service or back to the referral agent as necessary, or step‑up treatment to high intensity.
* Work closely with other team members, ensuring appropriate step‑up and step‑down arrangements to maintain a stepped care approach.
* Input client information into agreed databases, ensuring notes are succinct, clear and relevant.
* Maintain clinical confidentiality at all times and ensure it is protected within the service.
* Provide a range of information and support for evidence‑based NICE guidelines in Talking Therapies.
* Ensure clear objectives are identified, discussed and reviewed with senior therapists on a regular basis as part of continuing professional development.
* Attend clinical and managerial supervision on a regular basis as agreed with the line manager.
* Participate in individual performance reviews and respond to agreed objectives.
* Contribute to the development of best practice within the service.
* Ensure the maintenance of standards of practice according to the employer and any regulating body, keeping up to date with new recommendations and guidelines from the Department of Health, NHS Plan, National Service Framework and National Institute for Clinical Excellence.
* Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and procedures in relation to mental health and primary care services.
* Be aware of and keep up to date with advances in the treatment of common mental health problems.
* Undertake training as required by the organisation.
* Work within the organisation's policies and procedures.
* Undertake such other duties commensurate with the role.
* Understand and work with the ethos, aims and objectives of LWC.


Person Specification – Essential

* A thorough understanding of anxiety and depression and how it may present in primary care.
* Knowledge of child protection issues, safeguarding and other relevant legislation.
* Ability to meet agreed or specified service targets.
* Ability to manage own caseload and time.
* Clear written communication skills, including the ability to write clear reports, letters to referrers and notes.
* Ability to develop good therapeutic relationships with clients.
* Ability to adapt to the changing needs of the service.
* Excellent IT proficiency, including full competence using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook).
* Attention to detail.
* High integrity and understanding of confidentiality, maintaining discretion at all times.
* Proactive self‑starter with a positive and energetic approach to work.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Confident communicator at all levels.
* Effective time management and workload management.
* Empathy with the aims and values of the organisation.
* Commitment to continuous improvement, including own professional development.
* Willingness to be flexible and dynamic as organisational needs change.

Qualifications – Essential

* Qualified PWP with experience working in a primary care setting.
* Qualified to deliver supervision and case management to PWPs.


Experience – Essential

* Experience working as a PWP in a primary care setting.
* Experience of routine outcome monitoring.
* Experience carrying out risk assessments within the scope of practice.

UK Registration

Applicants must have current UK professional registration.


Salary & Contract

Salary: £35,323.35 per year. Contract: Fixed term, 12 months. Working pattern: Full‑time.
