Overview
Medical Receptionists play a key role within our busy general practice. The main aspects of the role are to support and facilitate patient access to health care professionals and services by providing reception and administrative support to the practice, ensuring that a full range of duties are carried out in an accurate, efficient manner and in accordance with practice policy. This includes providing effective communication across the practice teams and other organisations to support patient care and safety, while enabling the practice to fulfil its GP, GMS and enhanced service contracts. Applicants will need excellent customer service skills and the ability to maintain a professional attitude towards patients, colleagues and other healthcare organisations.
Responsibilities
* Booking patient appointments in practice and other organisations.
* Handling patient enquiries from multiple platforms and sources such as online econsult, face‑to‑face walk‑ins or telephone calls.
* Processing repeat prescription requests and enquiries.
* Filing and scanning results and letters manually and electronically; processing information received from external agencies and managing internal/external correspondence. Data inputting such as scanning documents using document management software and coding relevant information (e.g., diagnosis extracted from correspondence).
* Compliance with Health and Safety for yourself, employees, patients and visitors.
* Assisting with the maintenance of practice call and recall systems for patients in long‑term condition management clinics and national screening programmes to proactively support patient health.
* House‑keeping duties, including restocking consulting rooms and rotating stock.
* Liaising with the GP and outside agencies on behalf of patients, acting as a patient advocate when necessary.
* Managing records movement and patient access to medical records, including registration and de‑registration.

About the Practice
We are a 3 GP Partner practice providing quality health care to a population of approximately 8,000 patients. Our practice operates from the Cleveland Health Centre located above the Cleveland Centre Shopping Mall and is part of the Central Middlesbrough Primary Care Network. Our multidisciplinary team includes GPs, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurses, Health Care Assistants, Reception, Administration and Secretarial staff, supported by a network of pharmacists, physiotherapists, mental health practitioners, social prescribers and care coordinators.
Salary and Training
Salary will be based on experience, with training provided.
