Jack O'Neil Laboratory is a highly specialised laboratory using dedicated
methodology for the diagnosis of amyloidosis and systemic autoinflammatory diseases and is central to the NHS England funded national highly specialised services based at the National Amyloidosis Centre. Jack O'Neill Laboratory consists of a small team covering the following sections: specimen reception,
molecular genetics, histopathology and proteomics.
We are seeking to appoint a staff member, for a fix term, to work primarily in the specimen reception, but also to provide essential support to scientists, technicians and researchers. This post is essential for ensuring smooth laboratory operations, supporting compliance, improving efficiency, and ultimately contributing to patient-centred research. The post holder will perform independently a range of routine tasks in the pre analytical section of the laboratory to ensure efficient and effective processing of samples. In this role precision and excellent attention to detail is essential. The work performed is undertaken in accordance with appropriate training and ability to demonstrate
competence.
To provide both the technical and administrative support in data entry and processing of research samples within the Centre.
To book in research samples on the departmental database system
To interact with service users, both by telephone and in person as and when required.
To support senior laboratory and other research and clinical staff within the NAC, ensuring that a high quality diagnostic results are generated in a timely and efficient manner.
To work within defined standards, protocols, policies and procedures including Health and Safety regulations for laboratory area, to ensure safe working procedures, health and safety of other staff and visitors to the department and maintain the highest level of service at all times.
To be responsible for personal ongoing training as required, ensuring skills /competencies are maintained.
To assist in monitoring quality control procedure, check the trends and report to the quality manager.
