Fire Glass UK Ltd is one of the UK's leading manufacturers, suppliers, and glaziers of fire and acoustic glass, and is looking to appoint a Maintenance Operative at their UK Branch based in Oldbury.

Purpose of the Role
To ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime of machinery and infrastructure through effective housekeeping, planned preventative maintenance, and reactive building repairs.
MAIN ACTIVITIES
1. Perform general machine housekeeping (e.g., cleaning tanks, flushing water pipes, changing polishing wheels, replacing belts).
2. Assist with installation and maintenance of machines, tools, and equipment.
3. Conduct planned preventative maintenance in line with schedules.
4. Inspect machines and equipment for operational compliance and respond to faults.
5. Fit new parts and ensure equipment is functioning correctly.
6. Carry out a variety of building maintenance tasks including joinery, tiling, painting, paving, drainage, and plumbing.
7. Perform frequent checks on buildings and equipment to identify maintenance needs.
8. Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities using the in-house electronic ticket system.
9. Conduct quality inspections and liaise with site management for job sign-off.
10. Collaborate with engineering and production teams to complete tasks efficiently.
11. Ensure compliance with safety regulations during maintenance activities.
12. Adhere to company policies, procedures, and integrated management systems (Quality, Environmental, Health & Safety).
13. Undertake other duties appropriate to the role and grade as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
1. Qualifications
Essential : NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in a relevant trade (e.g., mechanical engineering, plumbing, building maintenance)
Desirable: Additional certifications in Health & Safety, Electrical Safety, or Machine Maintenance
1. Experience
Essential: Proven experience in general maintenance and machine housekeeping
Desirable: Experience in a manufacturing or production environment
1. Skills & Abilities
Essential: Ability to carry out a wide range of building and mechanical maintenance tasks
Good fault-finding and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Basic IT skills for record-keeping
Desirable: Ability to interpret technical manuals and drawings
Experience using electronic maintenance ticketing systems

Desirable: Knowledge of integrated management systems (QMS, EMS, H&S)
