Strategic SME (Data), Life Technology 12 Month Fixed-Term Contract
We are seeking a Strategic SME (Data) to join our Life Technology Strategy team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This is a highly collaborative and strategic role, responsible for leading the development and delivery of the Life Data Strategy in close partnership with business stakeholders and Group-level data teams. You will ensure that our data vision, platforms, and practices are fully aligned with both Group and business requirements, enabling the organisation to unlock value from data and support future innovation.
You will work across all aspects of data, bringing deep expertise in data platforms, information architecture, data modelling, data fabrics, and the future possibilities for data in a rapidly evolving AI world. Your focus will be on building the data foundations and capabilities that enable advanced analytics and AI, while ensuring robust process modelling and information flows across the organisation.
A key part of your role will be to work closely with Strategic Consultants, providing expert advice, validation, and challenge to ensure that data considerations are fully embedded in strategic objectives and technology initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Data Leadership & Collaboration
 1. Lead the development and execution of the Life Data Strategy, ensuring alignment with Group and business objectives.
 2. Collaborate closely with business partners, Group data teams, architects, and technology leaders to shape and deliver a unified data vision.
 3. Act as a key liaison between Life Technology and Group Data, ensuring consistency, compliance, and shared best practices.
 4. Support Strategic Consultants by providing subject matter expertise, validating data-related aspects of strategy objectives, and ensuring data is a core enabler of strategic initiatives.
Data Enablement & Modernization
 5. Advise on the design and evolution of data platforms, information architecture, and data models to support strategic and operational needs.
 6. Assess and recommend modern data techniques, including data fabrics, data mesh, and emerging approaches to data management.
 7. Ensure data foundations are robust, scalable, and future-ready to enable advanced analytics and AI.
Process Modelling & Information Flow
 8. Support process modelling and optimisation, ensuring data flows and information architecture are aligned to business processes and strategic goals.
 9. Work with business and technology teams to map, document, and improve data-driven processes.
Thought Leadership & Best Practice
 10. Stay at the forefront of modern data thinking, bringing new ideas and best practices to the organisation.
 11. Act as a trusted advisor on data strategy, data platforms, and the future of data in a digital and AI-enabled world.
Stakeholder Engagement & Influence
 12. Build strong, influential relationships across business, technology, and Group functions, advocating for data enablement and strategic alignment.
 13. Educate and influence stakeholders on the importance of data foundations and their role in enabling business and technology outcomes.

Key Skills and Experience
 19. Deep expertise in data platforms, information architecture, data modelling, and data management.
 20. Strong understanding of modern data concepts such as data fabrics, data mesh, and cloud-based data solutions.
 21. Experience designing and enabling data foundations to support advanced analytics and AI (without needing to be an AI specialist).
 22. Proven ability to map, model, and optimise business processes and information flows.
 23. Track record of influencing technology strategy and delivering data-driven change in large, complex organisations.
 24. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate complex data concepts for non-technical audiences.
 25. Experience working collaboratively with business and Group-level partners to deliver shared outcomes.
 26. Experience supporting and validating strategic objectives in partnership with strategy and technology teams.
 27. Up-to-date knowledge of data governance, data quality, and regulatory requirements.
 28. Experience working in agile, cross-functional teams and collaborating across business and technology functions.
