Overview
Education Mental Health Practitioner role working with children and young people in schools. You will deliver evidence-based support for pupils with mild to moderate mental health needs and contribute to whole-school approaches to emotional health.
Responsibilities
* Provide evidence-based mental health support to children and young people in schools.
* Help pupils understand their emotions, build resilience, and feel more in control of their lives.
* Deliver one-to-one and group interventions as appropriate, including support for anxiety, low mood, and everyday pressures.
* Be a key part of each school's wider wellbeing culture by advising teachers, supporting families, and embedding a whole-school approach to emotional health.
* Share knowledge, build relationships, and contribute to making mental health support more visible and effective.
* Participate in a committed, friendly, values-driven team with supervision, ongoing training, and opportunities to grow practice.
Qualifications
* Essential: Be a suitably qualified Education Mental Health Practitioner.
* Experience delivering therapeutic interventions (e.g., CBT or solution-focused work).
* Knowledge of safeguarding and capacity frameworks, including Gillick competence.
* Experience working with children or young people, ideally in an education or health setting.
* Confidence in managing risk and maintaining clear records.
* Strong communication skills, especially when working with families, schools, and professionals.
* Ability to travel between school sites, with access to a vehicle or suitable alternative.
* Desirable: Teaching qualification; Youth Mental Health First Aid training.
* Knowledge of the functional operation of specialist CAMHS teams; experience in education or healthcare settings; experience monitoring outcomes; navigating complex social systems.
Additional Criteria
* Ability to carry out 1:1 therapeutic mental health interventions with children and with families.
* Ability to conduct mental health assessments and manage risk, with appropriate action to mitigate risk.
* Excellent oral and written communication; strong time management and organisational skills.
* Access to own transport or ability to commute between venues; ongoing commitment to professional registration and development.
