Representing some 9,000 farmers, crofters, and other rural businesses across the country, NFU Scotland’s mission is to promote and protect the interests of its members by influencing government and the supply chain to secure a sustainable future for Scottish agriculture. We are recruiting for a person to join our widely respected Policy Team to contribute to developing all issues relating to the climate, land and business remit.
The Role
This is a newly created role, and we are seeking a dynamic and knowledgeable Policy Manager to join our Climate, Land & Business team. This role is pivotal in shaping and influencing public policy on critical issues such as climate change, land use, and species management. The successful candidate will be the technical lead for these areas, working closely with the wider policy team to ensure our positions are aligned and impactful.
Key Responsibilities:
•Develop and lead NFUS policy on a range of land use policy issues, including woodland creation and peatland restoration and species management.
•Support the Senior Policy Manager in policy development relating to climate change and strategic land use issues.
•Influence Scottish Government policy through consultations, meetings, and relationship building.
•Provide high-standard written and verbal evidence to parliamentary and governmental consultations.
•Support and advise colleagues, including regional teams, board of directors, senior management, and policy staff.
•Manage and provide secretariat to the NFUS Environment & Land Use Committee and support to other NFUS committees as required.
Person Specification:
•Qualifications: Degree in a relevant subject or equivalent experience.
•Experience: At least 3 years of working experience in a related field.
•Skills: Strong organisational awareness, effective communication, and the ability to influence key stakeholders.
•Knowledge: It would be desirable to have an understanding of parliamentary processes and the political landscape, evidence-based policy analysis.
•Personal Qualities: Ambitious, respectful, team player, and honest.
•Interests: A keen interest in environmental and land issues and the work of NFU Scotland.

Annual salary of £35,000 - £45,000 commensurate with demonstrable knowledge, competence and experience.
Full-time permanent contract (35 hours per week)
