Are you an experienced commissioner looking for a new challenge in a dynamic and supportive local authority?

West Berkshire Council is seeking a Senior Commissioner to join our newly creating Children’s Commissioning team working across Children’s Social Care, Education and SEND.

We are looking for a Senior Commissioner to focus on Children’s Social Care, including developing the market and ensuring sufficiency of foster carers and residential homes for children we care for. The role will also work with neighbouring boroughs and regional commissioning arrangements.


The Role

As part of the Commissioning Service, you will work collaboratively with our Social Care Colleagues, Providers and Service Users to achieve the best possible outcomes for children and young people in West Berkshire.


Key Responsibilities

* Market analysis and intelligence gathering to assess provider capacity and identify gaps in provision
* Commissioning of education, care and support services to meet the needs of children and young people
* Contract management and performance monitoring to ensure providers deliver high quality services
* Working in partnership with stakeholders, including parents, schools and external providers


Ideal Candidate

* Significant experience in commissioning, ideally within a local authority or public sector environment
* Knowledge of education and care services, including relevant legislation and regulatory requirements
* Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage and influence a range of individuals
* Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and market information to inform commissioning decisions
* A collaborative and solution‑focused approach, with the ability to work effectively in partnership
