As a Director of Software Engineering at JPMorgan Chase, you will lead a technical area within the Commercial and Investment Banking Payments Technology team and drive impact across teams, technologies, and projects. Utilize your in-depth knowledge of software, applications, technical processes, and product management to manage multiple complex projects and initiatives, serving as a primary decision-maker and a driver of innovation and solution delivery.
JPMorgan Chase, a leader in the payments industry, processes payments averaging $10 trillion, representing 24% of the market. We are innovating with new payment methods like JP Coin, expanding into new markets, and enhancing settlement speeds with real-time payments. These advancements require sophisticated technologies to meet regulatory demands and sustain business growth.
This role focuses on regulatory reporting within the Payments sector, especially in the dynamic EMEA region, where evolving regulations and market expansion into countries like the UAE present unique challenges. You will lead a talented team of 25+ professionals, including 3-4 direct-report managers, fostering innovation and excellence. The role involves leveraging modern technologies including AI and ML to deliver autonomous solutions, managing stakeholders effectively, and aligning team efforts with the strategic goals of the Payments business.
Job responsibilities
* Lead technology and process implementations to meet functional objectives
* Make decisions affecting team resources, budgets, operations, and process implementations
* Ensure governance over coding decisions, control measures, and success metrics such as cost of ownership and maintainability
* Deliver scalable technical solutions across multiple business domains
* Influence peers and senior stakeholders across business, product, and technology teams
* Promote a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect
* Deep expertise in cloud implementations and security controls
* Adopt emerging technologies including AI and ML
* Implement reliable platforms with high availability (triple 9s or more)
* Maintain a problem-solving mindset
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
* Formal training or certification in software engineering and extensive experience leading technologists in complex technical environments
* Experience managing cross-functional teams of technologists
* Proven ability in hiring, developing, and recognizing talent
* Experience as a Product Owner or Product Manager
* Practical experience with cloud-native architectures
* Strong background in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related fields
* Deep knowledge of Pyspark, AWS Cloud, Databricks, Java
* Experience scaling platforms effectively
* Excellent communication skills for diverse stakeholders
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
* Hands-on coding experience
* Understanding of EMEA regulations
* Ability to work across multiple time zones
* Subject matter expertise in Payments
* Master’s degree or higher in software or data engineering disciplines
