Greater Peterborough Network is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Podiatrist to join our Primary Care at Scale services, to oversee the Podiatry Services delivered at Peterborough City Hospital for its inpatients and outpatients.

The successful candidate will proactively manage the efficient day-to-day running of the service and will work closely with other clinicians and teams, as well as other service providers, making sure that appropriate treatment and referrals are provided for patients.

The postholder will work with a diverse range of people from different cultural and social backgrounds. The ability to work independently, confidently, and effectively in a varied and sometimes challenging environment is essential.

As this is an evolving role, we are looking for experienced candidates with a flexible attitude, who are keen to work, and learn and share knowledge as part of a team good working relationships and the ability to multitask are essential to this role.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities

* To independently triage referrals and determine appropriate care pathways, ensuring patients are directed to the most suitable services in a timely manner while coordinating onward referrals when specialist input or additional investigations are required.
* To undertake comprehensive clinical assessments and apply advanced analytical skills to interpret complex clinical information, including imaging and pathology reports, in order to formulate accurate diagnoses, prognoses, and tailored management plans.
* To manage and organise a designated caseload of patients, prioritising clinical needs effectively while ensuring efficient use of time and resources to deliver safe and timely care.
* To maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and clinical documentation, ensuring all consultations, treatments, and outcomes are clearly recorded in line with legal, organisational, and professional standards. The outpatient clinic outcome must be completed within 48 hours of the appointment to accurately reflect the consultation and ensure timely documentation.
* To provide education, guidance, and specialist advice to patients, relatives, carers, and healthcare professionals, supporting understanding of foot health management and encouraging engagement in treatment and rehabilitation plans.


Job responsibilities

* Deliver inpatient podiatry 5 days/week
* Urgent triage and treatment during crisis episode
* Reduce length of stay (LOS) / admission avoidance by early intervention
* Minimise severity through early treatment
* Improve patient pathways and timely assessment
* MDT access
* Reduce risk of complications and amputations
* Foster professional integration with community services


Person Specification


Qualifications

* 2.Degree in Podiatry or equivalent.
* 1.Registration with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) with annotations POM-A, POM-S, and Independent Prescriber.
* 2.Ionising radiation (medical exposure) regulations certificate- IR(ME)R and proficient in using PACS.
* 3.Training in requesting and interpretation of investigations relevant to foot complications.
* 4.Education in advanced podiatric practice such as MSc in Podiatric Medicine or equivalent.


Experience

* 1.Experience in advanced podiatry practice, including complex wound care.
* 2.Able to work independently and manage high-risk patients.
* 3.Experience leading Podiatry services.
* 4.Coordinating and liaising with multiple stakeholders or individuals to meet specified outcomes.
* 5.Experience of multidisciplinary and interagency working.
* 6.Experience of clinical supervision, and leading, teaching & mentoring others.
* 7.Experience of continuous quality improvement, clinical pathway improvement, & service development.
* 8.Knowledge of audit and risk assessment.
* 9.Understand and apply principles of Clinical Governance within the 3 domains of quality.
* 10.Understand equality and diversity and its implications in care provision.
* 1.Experience of working in a fast‑paced NHS environment and managing competing demands.
* 2.Experience line management of others, including sickness absence management.
* 3.Practical application of National high risk foot and lower limb prevention strategies, including The National Woundcare Strategy Programme.

Additional criteria

Knowledge

* 1.Ability to professionally process safeguarding and distressing or uncomfortable situations, e.g. terminally ill patients, recognise report abuse of others, providing guidance to team members where appropriate.
* 2.Ability to analyse patients concerns, their needs, and propose a range of effective solutions with adaptive communication styles
* 3.Ability to undertake sustained intricate work in using sensitive diagnostic tools and a range of surgical instruments, for example the management and debridement of tissue viability/wounds etc.
* 4.Ability to apply biomechanics knowledge to a wound care setting, for example offloading, casting etc.
* 5.Adaptability to a variety of working environments
* 6.Ability to cope with sometimes distressing settings and work tasks including wound care, necrotic tissue, neglected pathology and exposure to malodour, body fluids including blood and wound exudate.
* 7.Ability to reflect on own practice as well as seek and accept feedback.
* 8.Passion for own and professional progression, forward thinking and innovative
* 9.Ability to understand, appreciate and articulate implications of data, and apply the learning to staff rota management and job planning, directing others as required.
* 10.Good understanding of referral pathways
* 11.Good working knowledge of General IT setup and systems
* 1. Development and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures.
* 2. Experience of the review and updating of clinical systems templates.
* 3. Ability to understand business continuity plans.
* 4. Experience of implementation of Patient Group Directives to improve patient care pathways
