Overview
The post is based in His Majesty’s Prison Wormwood Scrubs where the specialty doctor will join an established multidisciplinary team in providing psychiatric care to patients. This post is desirable for those wishing to pursue a career in Forensic Psychiatry or General Psychiatry, including Addictions Psychiatry. The successful candidate will join an expanded Mental Health In-Reach Team (MHIT) in a Cat B remand prison (with an inmate population of around 1200) in a vibrant part of West London. The MHIT is multidisciplinary, with a Team Manager, 2 FTE Consultants (3 Consultants), 8 CPNs, a social worker, an occupational therapies team, speech and language therapist, psychologists, and a social worker. The MHIT works closely with primary care, prison counselling services, ForwardTrust (addictions service), and the prison healthcare inpatient unit.
Responsibilities
The specialty doctor will:
* Manage major mental illness and organise transfers to hospitals.
* Be involved in the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD.
* Assess and manage a wide range of clinical presentations including psychosis, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, ADHD, neurodevelopmental and substance-related disorders.
* Work in a combination of inpatient (healthcare unit) and outpatient (prison ordinary location) settings.
* See around 6 new patients each week and 10 follow-ups.
* Have access to a shared office with other doctors and their own computer.
Qualifications and Experience
* Experience in the assessment and management of a wide range of clinical presentations including psychosis, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, ADHD, neurodevelopmental and substance related disorders.
* Interest or experience in Forensic Psychiatry or General Psychiatry, including Addictions Psychiatry, is desirable.
