Role Purpose:
The Catering Assistant will play an important role in delivering excellent customer service and maintaining high standards of food quality and cleanliness. This is a hands-on role supporting the café team in serving customers, preparing food and drinks, and ensuring the café remains clean, safe, and welcoming at all times.
Key Responsibilities:
Greet and serve customers in a friendly and professional manner.
Prepare and serve food and drinks to a consistent standard.
Operate tills and handle cash accurately.
Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the café and kitchen areas.
Support stock rotation, deliveries, and restocking during service.
Follow all food safety, hygiene, and health & safety guidelines.
Assist with setup and close-down duties before and after service
Support special events and railway functions when required.
Person Specification:
Essential:
Friendly, reliable, and customer-focused.
Ability to work as part of a small team.
Flexible and available to work weekends and bank holidays.
Good communication skills and attention to detail.
Desirable:
Level 2 Food Hygiene qualification (or willingness to obtain).
Previous experience in a café, restaurant, or catering environment.
Barista or till operation experience.
Interest in heritage railways or community-based work.
