Job Description

Special Needs Teacher Required

Location: Hillingdon borough

Working Hours; 08:30 am - 16:00 pm.

Salary: Paid to your teaching scale

Start Date: Late July or first week of September 2026

Are you a dedicated educator with a passion for supporting children with special educational needs (SEN)? Whether you're an experienced SEN professional or a mainstream teacher seeking a rewarding new challenge, this is your opportunity to truly make a difference.

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Special Needs Teacher to join a nurturing and inclusive school environment, where every child’s potential is recognised, supported, and celebrated.

About the School

The school is committed to empowering students with a wide range of needs, including Autism, ADHD, and learning difficulties. Our staff work collaboratively to create a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment that promotes academic, social, and emotional growth.

We believe in celebrating every achievement, no matter how small, and building a school culture rooted in respect, compassion, and inclusivity. With excellent facilities, a supportive SLT, and continuous professional development opportunities, this is a fantastic place to build a fulfilling SEN teaching career.

Key Responsibilities

As a Special Needs Teacher, you will:

* Plan and Deliver Tailored Lessons: Design and deliver creative, differentiated lessons that meet the individual needs of students with a variety of learning profiles.
* Support Holistic Development: Encourage social skills, emotional regulation, independence, and personal growth alongside academic learning.
* Implement and Monitor IEPs: Collaborate with teaching assistants, families, and external professionals to ensure Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) outcomes are met.
* Create an Inclusive Environment: Build a positive, safe, and engaging classroom culture where every student feels seen, supported, and valued.
* Assess and Track Progress: Use ongoing assessment tools and documentation to monitor progress and communicate effectively with families and stakeholders.
* Utilise SEN-Specific Strategies: Incorporate visual aids, sensory resources, alternative communication systems (e.g., PECS, Makaton), and assistive technologies to maximise learning.
* Promote a Culture of Inclusion: Support wider school efforts to create a truly inclusive setting where all children can thrive.

Who We’re Looking For

We welcome applications from:

* Qualified Special Needs Teachers with experience teaching pupils with autism, complex needs, or learning difficulties.
* Mainstream Teachers with QTS who are ready to transition into SEN and have a genuine interest in supporting students with additional needs.

Essential Skills & Experience:

* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
* A strong understanding of SEN (through experience or personal interest).
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* A calm, patient, and empathetic teaching style.
* Commitment to inclusive education and personalised learning.
* Experience with alternative teaching methods and behaviour support strategies (desirable but not essential).

What Makes a Successful Special Needs Teacher?

* Empathy & Insight: Understanding and appreciating each child’s unique journey.
* Adaptability: Tailoring your approach to meet diverse learning needs and styles.
* Creativity: Engaging students through innovative, multi-sensory methods.
* Collaboration: Working as part of a multidisciplinary team that includes therapists, support staff, and families.
* Commitment to Inclusion: Believing in every child's right to succeed, regardless of their challenges.
