At our Burnley secondary school, we're searching for passionate Geography and Geology graduates (or those with strong A-levels in relevant subjects) who want to make a difference to young people's understanding of our world. We need someone who can bring energy to teaching topics from tectonic hazards to climate change, from population dynamics to coastal processes. Why choose us? Students consistently achieve above national averages in Geography at both GCSE and A-Level, supported by: Dedicated fieldwork programme Modern teaching facilities Strong links with local environmental projects Supportive department with expert mentors Training structure 41 Model: Four days in school developing practical teaching skills, with one day per week (Wednesdays) for online professional development. September–December: Observe expert teaching, team-teach with mentors, develop basic classroom management. January–March: Take increasing responsibility for planning and teaching, focus on assessment strategies. April–July: Lead classes independently, develop advanced teaching techniques, complete QTS qualification. What you'll need Geography, Geology or related degree (2:1 or higher preferred) OR strong A-levels in Geography, Environmental Science or Geology Passion for geographical education and current environmental issues Communication skills that will engage young people Commitment to professional development Driving licence beneficial but not essential – good public transport links available Next steps Interviews are happening now for September 2025 start.
