East Barnet School
Marketing communications officer

Offer description

Communication is at the heart of everything we do at East Barnet School (EBS). We are looking for a Marketing & Communications Officer who can help tell our story with clarity, creativity and care - someone who enjoys bringing ideas to life, managing multiple tasks with accuracy and confidence, contributing to the positive culture of our vibrant school community.

EBS is a thriving, over-subscribed and diverse north London secondary school with a warm, collaborative ethos. Growth mindset underpins our approach to learning and working, and staff wellbeing, creativity and professional development are central to our culture.

This full-time role is ideal for someone who is organised, digitally confident and comfortable working both independently and as part of a busy team. You will support the Marketing & Communications Manager with internal and external communications and letters, with responsibility for producing weekly bulletins, updating the school website and digital signage, assisting with social media and digital content, and helping create simple design materials for key school events.

You will need strong Microsoft 365 skills and the ability to pick up new systems quickly. Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign or Photoshop), Canva, or a CMS (such as WordPress) would be a significant advantage. There are also opportunities to contribute to visual displays and the presentation of the school environment.

You will need to be calm, accurate, adaptable and confident managing multiple deadlines independently. The role also involves supporting key school events, including occasional evenings.

If you are excited by the idea of shaping how our community connects and communicates, come and join the team at EBS.

Working at EBS:

Benefits

* A rewarding job where you are able to make a real difference, contributing to the smooth running of the school.

* 2 Week October Half Term.

* Excellent pension schemes: Teachers’ Pensions (TP) with 28.68% employer contribution (effective from 1 April 2024) for teaching staff and Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) for support staff with 23.8% employer contribution, with 50/50 option for support staff to pay a reduced employee contribution rate. Employee contribution rates for both teaching and support staff are banded based on pensionable pay.

* Children of colleagues working for the school for two or more years are given priority for Year 7 admissions.

* Access to Blue Light Card and Discounts for Teachers for all school staff.

* Free Microsoft Office for your home PC/laptop and security software.

* Access to salary sacrifice schemes, e.g. Cycle to Work, Tech (personal laptop/computer).

* Opportunity to take on paid lunch duties, which include a free meal, dessert and drink.

Professional Development

* The school is committed to growth mindset and the professional development of all colleagues. Continuing Professional Learning (CPL) calendar for both teaching and support staff at every level. Training provided by internal and external professionals, as well as guest speakers.

* At East Barnet School positive mental health and wellbeing is paramount. In the implementation of all new initiatives and policies, the impact on staff wellbeing is always considered.

* Access to Health Assured Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), which provides 24/7 wellbeing and mental health support, including counselling services, CBT and financial and legal advice at no cost to the employee.

* We have received several awards in recognition of our personal and professional development of staff, including the Carnegie Award for Mental Health in Schools.

Location

* Serviced by great train, underground and bus transport links (Northern line, Piccadilly line and New Barnet (overground) station are all within walking distance).

* Being based in the outskirts of London means we benefit from a more rural location and cheaper housing prices whilst being only a short train journey into the centre of London.

* For those who drive, we have a free, large, gated car park, and bike racks for those who choose to cycle.

* There are plenty of local shops and supermarkets in the surrounding area around the school, and a great view across London from our floor to ceiling panoramic Library window.

Working atmosphere

* March 2022 Ofsted inspection recognised that: 'Pupils behave very well in lessons and they are keen to learn. They listen to teachers, contribute their ideas and work hard. Outside of lessons, pupils' behaviour is calm and orderly.'

* The school offers a very supportive, friendly and warm environment.

Facilities

* The state-of-the-art school building which was opened in September 2010 incorporates extensive grounds, modern outside sports facilities, excellent IT provision and contemporary dining areas, with our Sixth Form Cafe, now proudly serving Costa Coffee (which is also available to staff).
