Job summary

Whether you're an experienced Registered Nurseor a Newly Registered Nurse, this is a fantastic opportunity to be part of HMP Deerbolt Mental Health team, a service that puts prisoners care first.

Deerbolt is a prison and young offender institution near Barnard Castle, County Durham for men aged 18 and over.

We're looking for a qualified mental health or Learning Disability nurse to join our team working in a rewarding environment where you will get to practice a full range of psychiatric skills and interventions. You will have the time and support to make a real difference every day.

Student Nurse's that are due to register in the next 3 months are very welcome to apply. Full training and Preceptorship programme will be provided to help you build confidence and develop your career in this specialist area.

We'll provide you with a nurturing learning environment and allocation of a Clinical Supervisor and Professional Lead will to support your development and success within the role. This is an excellent opportunity for you to start your career in Health and Justice Services who provide care across the North East region for prison and custody related Mental Health services.

Main duties of the job

You will have experience providing compassionate care within mental health services, as well as and a keen interest in understanding the criminal justice system. You will make on going assessment of need reflecting individual circumstances and provide relevant interventions and input to discharge planning. You will be required to have strong coordination and planning skills, with the ability to make decisions based on comprehensive health and risk assessments.

You should be innovative, flexible and able to engage with patients with complex needs. You will be committed to a person-centred approach and have the ability to prioritise.

Qualification

Essential

1. Current professional registration with Nursing & Midwifery Council RNMH or RNLD (RNSC - CAMHS only ) - RGN (If appropriate - Advert must indicate if the role is open to RGN nurses to apply)
2. To be recognised practice assessor / mentor or work towards in an agreed timescale
3. Trained Clinical Supervisor (within 6 month probationary period)
4. Evidence of Continuing Professional Development

Experience

Essential

5. Working with people with mental ill health / learning disabilities
6. Working in a person centred therapeutic organisation
7. Working collaboratively with service users and their families/carers
8. Working in a multi-disciplinary team
9. Working in partnership with other agencies

Knowledge

Essential

10. Evidence based knowledge of best practice in caring for patients in the designated field
11. Understanding of relevant legislation (. Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act)
12. Understanding of Safeguarding and its application in practice
13. Clinical Risk Assessment and Management and its application in practice
14. Clinical Governance and its application in practice
15. Confident working knowledge of clinical medicines management, including administration of injections
