About the Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Acute Oncology Team as a clinical nurse specialist. We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated nurse who is passionate about oncology and ideally has previous experience working in acute oncology, haematology or chemotherapy services.
The acute oncology unit opens 8 am‑6 pm Monday to Friday and operates as a South Sector with CHFT.
Responsibilities
* Liaise with the appropriate Oncology and Haematology teams as required to ensure safe patient care delivery.
* Have excellent clinical decision‑making skills.
* Work autonomously and as part of a team, applying excellent knowledge of the various health issues and complications of SACT, delivering rapid treatments face‑to‑face when required, and signposting patients to the most appropriate clinician/service.
* Exercise continuous delegated responsibility for a caseload of patients and provide an effective and patient‑focused service that is considerate of the needs of users and providers.
* Organise, prioritise and evaluate workload based on accepted referral and discharge criteria in line with operational protocols.
* Provide clinical, social and psychological support to patients using excellent communication skills, education and health promotion to enable them to reach their optimum level of independence and health.
* Offer specialist advice, supervision and support to the defined caseload and peers.
* Ensure evidence‑based practice is applied consistently.
* Support the Band 7 CNS/team leader in leading identified and agreed aspects of the service, developing care systems, protocols and guidelines, working as part of a multi‑disciplinary team, and fostering excellent interdepartmental relationships.
* Guarantee cost‑effective use of all resources and appropriate governance management.
* Promote programmes of health education and health promotion relevant to the service.
* Work within national policy frameworks relevant to the service and trust local guidance.
* Review, interpret and act upon diagnostic investigations and point‑of‑care testing that may affect or alter individual care plans, liaising with appropriate medical staff where necessary.
Qualifications
* Experienced and highly motivated nurse passionate about oncology.
* Previous experience in acute oncology, haematology or chemotherapy services.
* Strong awareness of Oncology and Haematology Systemic Anti‑Cancer Therapy (SACT) treatments.
