About the Role We’re looking for an experienced Pile Breaker / Pile Cropping Operative to join our groundworks and concrete structures team. The role involves safely and efficiently breaking down concrete piles to specified cut-off levels using hydraulic pile cropping equipment and other approved methods. You’ll work closely with site engineers, supervisors, and concrete gangs to maintain quality, accuracy, and safety across all operations. Key Responsibilities Carry out pile cropping and trimming operations using hydraulic pile breakers, hand-held tools, and other approved methods Inspect piles prior to breaking, confirming dimensions, rebar cage positions, and cut-off levels with the Site Engineer or Supervisor Set up, operate, and maintain hydraulic pile breaker equipment (excavator-mounted or modular types) Work with the Machine Driver and Banksman to ensure safe lifting and handling of the equipment Maintain safe working distances and exclusion zones during operations Ensure broken piles meet required finish, level, and tolerance specifications Identify and report any defects, irregularities, or obstructions (e.g., high reinforcement, debris, incorrect pile spacing) Carry out pre-start and post-operation equipment checks, reporting any faults immediately Adhere to all company and site-specific Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality procedures Assist with other groundwork or concrete activities as required (when pile breaking operations are complete or paused) Essential Requirements Proven experience as a Pile Breaker / Pile Cropping Operative in a civils or groundworks environment Valid CPCS or NPORS card – Excavator Operator, Lifting Ops, or related Good understanding of hydraulic pile cropping systems and associated equipment Knowledge of safe working practices when operating around reinforced concrete piles and live site areas Understanding of reading drawings and pile schedules Strong awareness of Health & Safety, particularly regarding vibration, noise, dust, and exclusion zones Ability to work efficiently within a team and follow instructions from site supervision Desirable: SSSTS or equivalent supervisor qualification Additional plant tickets (Telehandler, Dumper, Roller, etc.) Experience working on large RC frame or infrastructure projects Manual handling, confined space, or lifting-related training Personal Attributes Reliable, punctual, and safety-conscious Positive attitude and teamwork mindset Good communication skills with site engineers and foremen Able to work to high standards with attention to detail What We Offer Competitive rates of pay Long-term, steady work on major projects Opportunities for upskilling and further training A strong focus on safety, quality, and team support Apply Now If you’re an experienced Pile Breaker / Pile Cropping Operative looking to join a professional, well-established construction team, we want to hear from you.
