This role is for an experienced Actuarial Student who is developing their skills towards becoming an Actuary and looking to broaden their experience working in the Financial and Insurance Risk Team. The role may also be suited to an experienced student/analyst who has ceased studying for the exams.
The nature and scale of Scottish Friendly’s growing business means that working within the Risk Team the candidate will get exposure to a wide range of topics and build a strong understanding of how the business operates and manages risk.
Through this work you will build a solid understanding of the business, the inherent risks and mitigation strategies, whilst developing their communication skills through assisting with the drafting of reports.
Key Responsibilities:
As you gain experience and progress through the actuarial qualification, your responsibilities will grow. You may get involved in oversight across the wider business relating to investment, business processes, marketing, and customer services. This could involve:
· Working as part of the team to deliver the Pillar 2 methodology, models and ORSA results.
· Preparing quarterly risk reporting for submission to Executive and Risk Committees.
· In-depth risk assurance around key projects and product development.
· Supporting the emerging risk identification process.
· Supporting the maintenance of the risk management framework, including setting risk
appetite and risk policies.
· Supporting the business to develop and maintain a clear risk-culture.
· Building relationships with stakeholders across the business.
· Attending key committees and providing risk oversight.
· Presenting reports to a range of internal stakeholders.
Qualifications & Skills:
· Previous experience working across a range of actuarial topics.
· Experience of working in the pensions, life insurance and savings sector.
· Experience providing second-line challenge preferable.
· Strong attention to detail, risk-based mindset, and passionate problem solver.
· Ability to work both independently and as part of a close team.
· Experience of designing or reviewing products/providing second line oversight preferable.
· Modelling experience; including testing, documenting and validating models and their
outputs preferable.
· Good written and verbal communication skills.
