Group Health, Safety & Environmental Officer
The Special Steel Group, located in Sheffield, is one of the most successful steel and engineering businesses in the country and a recipient of the Queen's Award for Enterprise. The Group comprises six independently operated businesses covering disciplines such as forging, heat treatment, testing, machining, and global distribution of advanced nickel-based alloys & special steels.
The Role
We are seeking to appoint a Group Health, Safety & Environmental Officer based at our Group HQ, reporting to the Group HS&E Manager. The successful candidate will collaborate with H&S and Quality team members, implementing H&S policies, conducting risk assessments, developing safe working procedures, and delivering training for UK-based employees. The role also involves employee inductions and liaising with external contractors. Additionally, you will support the development and maintenance of environmental policies and practices across our UK businesses, including maintaining ISO 14001 accreditation.
This is a 'Group Wide' role offering a broad and varied working environment across all UK companies within Sheffield.
Skills / Qualifications
* Experience in a steel, engineering, or manufacturing environment is preferred but not essential.
* Possession of a NEBOSH certificate or similar qualification.
* An environmental qualification such as IEMA Foundation Certificate would be advantageous but is not mandatory.
* Experience in H&S activities and a desire to develop as a qualified practitioner.
* Familiarity with auditing to ISO 45001 and 14001 standards and supporting management in continuous improvement programs is beneficial.
