Flying Start Dads Worker
Job description
About the role:
The Flying Start Dads Worker role is focused on supporting fathers, expectant fathers, male caregivers and father-figures to engage positively in their child’s early development and family life. The Dads Worker will deliver a proactive, strengths-based and father-inclusive service, supporting dads to build confidence, improve wellbeing
and develop positive parenting skills.
You will work holistically with families, offering tailored support in the home and community, helping fathers to access services, strengthen relationships and navigate challenges. The role is central to promoting early intervention and improving long-term outcomes for children aged 0-4 years and their families.
About you:
You will be an engaging, approachable and empathetic practitioner who can motivate and empower fathers, including those who may be reluctant to engage. You will bring a trauma-informed approach, recognising the challenges and life experiences that may impact a father’s ability to access support.
You will be confident working independently in the community, managing a caseload, and building strong relationships with families and partner agencies. You will be committed to inclusive practice and ensuring fathers feel valued and able to contribute to their child’s development.
We follow the NYTH/NEST Framework and are looking for someone who can build trusting, supportive relationships with children, young people and families. You will bring a steady, caring approach and help people feel safe, heard and understood.
What you will do:
You will provide one-to-one support, group work and outreach activities aimed at strengthening father engagement. You will develop and review support plans with families, help them set their own goals, and work collaboratively with the wider Early Help, Parenting and Flying Start teams to ensure families receive coordinated support. You will maintain accurate, timely records and contribute to monitoring and reporting
requirements, helping to evidence the impact of Flying Start’s work with fathers.
