HSE Adviser

Desired start date: June 2026.


Role Purpose

This is a pro‑active role involving regular engagement with employees in all areas of the organisation to achieve and maintain excellent HSE behaviours and attitudes. The role supports Sumitomo Electric UK Power Cables Ltd in establishing and maintaining health, safety and environmental management systems to ensure compliance with statutory requirements, implement best practices, and achieve ISO45001 & ISO14001 certification.


Key Accountabilities

* Systems: Participate in the development and maintenance of the HSMS and EMS, providing support and advice to managers responsible for implementing management system requirements.
* Communication & Engagement: Use various communication techniques to actively engage with all employees on HSE matters, encouraging reporting of incidents, near‑misses, hazards and good HSE behaviours to drive continual improvement.
* Support & Advice: Advise Department Managers to develop risk assessment and COSHH assessment planners, and guide assessment processes, including regulatory requirements. Assist in developing department‑specific Safe Operating Procedures using information from risk and COSHH assessments.
* Reporting: Support the HSE Administrator & Analyst with compiling reports for timely submission to internal and external stakeholders.
* Audit: Conduct audits per the annual HSE audit schedule, produce reports, record and track corrective actions, and verify the effectiveness of those actions. Facilitate external audits.
* Inspections & Safety Tours: Assist Senior and Department Managers in carrying out safety tours and inspections in accordance with schedules.
* Training: Develop and deliver in‑house HSE training and aid the HSE Administrator & Analyst in selecting suitable external training providers.
* Meetings: Attend meetings to provide HSE advice and guidance as directed by the HSE Manager.
* Investigation: Assist Department Managers in investigating HSE‑related incidents, including producing investigation reports, tracking corrective actions, and verifying their effectiveness.
* HSE Team Support: Provide support to other HSE Team members as required.


Essential Knowledge / Skills / Experience

* Ability to plan and work effectively with minimal supervision.
* Ability to engage with employees across the organisation, building relationships and trust.
* Ability to effectively communicate legislative requirements and recommend compliance strategies.
* Effective verbal and written communication skills.
* Strong team‑working and interpersonal skills.

* Ability to identify, analyse and solve problems.


Preferred Knowledge / Skills / Experience

* Previous experience in a manufacturing‑related role.
* Knowledge of root‑cause analysis tools and investigation techniques.
* Experience using HSE software.
