Automation and Control Development Engineer
Location: Worcester
Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 a year
Schedule: 37.5 hours per week, with Flexitime. Core hours 10:00 - 16:00, Monday - Thursday (office open 7:00 - 18:30); 10:00 - 12:00 Friday (office open 7:00 - 12:00)

Location: The role is office-based, with some UK and overseas client site work (estimated at 20%). The company has recently relocated to a larger facility off Junction 6 of the M5, which will be the primary place of work. Some home working may be possible based on project requirements.
Job Description
This role is for engineers who enjoy developing and implementing complex automation, mechatronic, and data acquisition systems for turnkey projects. No two projects are the same, providing great job satisfaction in delivering solutions in automotive and industrial environments. Candidates should have a strong engineering background for designing and fault-finding automated test systems, with Windows-based coding experience (preferably in C# or Visual Basic) for developing and modifying code for bespoke applications.
Responsibilities
* Determine the best methods to implement bespoke automation and control processes using the Company's CADET and DACS systems based on customer requirements.
* Develop C# control software utilizing the CADET API to implement solutions; support legacy systems with VB6/VBA.
* Support customers remotely and in person for fault diagnosis and system integration.
* Interface with third-party equipment using protocols such as Ethernet, Serial, Ethercat, CAN, Profibus, AK protocol.
* Create automation sequences using CADET tools.
* Analyze engineering systems for automation opportunities.
* Review post-test diagnostics logs for fault rectification.
* Create test and acceptance procedures.
* Develop custom system functionalities as per customer requirements.
* Conduct site visits for installation, testing, and documentation within the UK and globally.
* Collaborate with electrical design engineers and project managers to ensure project success.
* Manage source code via SourceTree, BitBucket, and Jira.
* Experience with PLC systems (especially safety PLCs) is advantageous but not essential.
* Potential to lead projects on various products.
Candidate Profile
* Self-driven, proactive, with good time management skills.
* Strong understanding of C# and Visual Studio.
* Engineering background in control & automation systems.
* Ideally, a joint electrical and mechanical/robotic/mechatronics/automation engineering degree with at least 3 years of relevant experience.
* Good knowledge of automation hardware (sensors, actuators, inverters).
* Willing to work away from home and travel overseas occasionally.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Full UK driving license and right to work in the UK.
