Who are we?
At Redcar and Cleveland, our mission is to help children thrive. While our Educational Psychology Service is currently small, this presents a unique opportunity to have real influence and help shape the direction of the service as we grow. You’ll be joining at a pivotal moment with lots of scope to develop innovative, evidence-based approaches and expand our impact across the borough. Your ideas and contributions will be valued and have a direct impact on the children, families, and schools we support. We are looking for creative, solution-oriented psychologists with the knowledge, skills, and enthusiasm to use psychology in ways that drive positive, meaningful change.
The successful candidates will join a friendly, supportive EPS and wider SEND team, with a strong focus on early intervention work in partnership with schools and the Specialist Teaching Service. There will also be opportunities to lead and develop project work that relates to your interests and influence wider practice, alongside a manageable statutory workload. Current areas of focus include initiatives on transition, attendance, and supporting children at risk of permanent exclusion. There are also opportunities to be involved in areas such as developing confidence around neurodiversity and supporting the embedding of the ‘Partnership for Inclusion of Neurodiversity in Schools’ (PINS) project, which has been very positively received by schools.
Our Local Authority is a recognised research organisation and works in partnership with the South Tees Health Determinants Research Collaboration, offering Educational Psychologists the opportunity to develop their own research interests with appropriate support. One of our successful pieces of research has been the 2024 research into parental experiences of consultation using the well-received ‘Adults First Model’ (Exploring Adults First, an educational psychology intervention, supporting children and their parents: “Your voice was as important as the teacher sat next to you” – SURE, University of Sunderland).
What we offer
Within our Local Authority, the different services across education and children’s social care work closely together. There is a strong commitment to relational approaches to working with children and their families which extends across all SEND teams. The Educational Psychology Service is well positioned to influence wider policy and practice across the Directorate. We are proud of the strong relationships we hold with schools across the borough, and of the trust placed in us to help drive change that matters.
We are committed to providing excellent opportunities for continuous professional development. High quality regular supervision will be provided. You will also benefit from recognition of any SPA points you currently hold, alongside proactive support to reach any additional SPA points as you become eligible. We offer a hybrid model of work, combining flexibility to work from home with regular team time at our modern base at Inspire 2 Learn, which includes ample free parking, a spacious lunch area with a staff kitchen, available space for working, meeting, and catching up with colleagues, and bookable rooms. You’ll also be supported by a dedicated and friendly business administrator.
We welcome applications from fully qualified Educational Psychologists, those due to qualify in 2025, and candidates interested in either full-time or part-time roles.
We are particularly keen to hear from practitioners who are enthusiastic about applying psychology to facilitate positive change, and who value collaboration, reflection, and evidence-based practice. If you are looking for a team of fun, friendly and supportive EPs who care about your wellbeing and promote positive work life balance then we would love to hear from you.
