About you We currently have an exciting opportunity for three passionate, motivated and enthusiastic individuals to join our Enforcement Team. The post holders will represent the Council, ensuring that public areas are kept safe, clean, and tidy, whilst responding to urgent requests and undertaking appropriate actions to resolve any issues. The individuals should be able to read and understand relevant legislation, remain calm and composed under pressure and be able to respond professionally in potential emotional and challenging situations. A large part of this role is community engagement, educational events, encouragement and enforcement. Two of the Officers will primarily focus on enforcement of the District’s main Green Flag Parks (i.e. Coastal Park, Kingsnorth Gardens) during the summer season and wider district patrolling during autumn/winter of other public open spaces like cemeteries, childrens play areas, and beaches. Ideally, the post holders will benefit from having enforcement experience or have a background in security, or negotiation skills. You will support in improving the district and assist in the effective delivery of the environmental patrol function, this includes (Dog fouling, littering, fly-tipping, unauthorised encampments, fly-posting, waste out early, community protection, issue Fixed Penalty Notices (FPN) etc) in accordance with all relevant statutes, guidance, policies and procedures. You will also be expected to prepare Legal case files and attend court where applicable. The successful candidates will be required to patrol the district by foot for periods of time as well as travelling throughout the district by van. You will need to be able to: Handle difficult confrontational situations Keep calm under pressure Multitask Have excellent communication skills Have the ability to work at pace as part of a team or by yourself A keen eye for detail Above all else, you will be joining a very successful, supportive and passionate team. The 37 hours will be worked on a shift basis between 07.00 hours and 19.00 hours, 7 days per week. However, most of the work will be from 8.30am and 5pm Monday to Friday. Work outside these hours may be required from time to time for targeted operations, including seasonal patrols across the district during weekend and bank holidays. Whilst we have a hybrid working approach, as an Environmental Enforcement Officer you will be providing a frontline service, with an expectation that you will work from the Civic Centre in Folkestone throughout the week, with the occasional opportunity to work from home.
