About the apprenticeship
Duties
An excellent opportunity has become available to join Kennametal as an Apprentice Maintenance technician with Electrical bias at our Newport facility. The successful candidate will Working closely with the Maintenance Supervisor, technicians and site electrician providing an effective and efficient planned and responsive maintenance service to the production equipment and facilities services with a high level of focus on Safety.
Additional information
You will gain experience and knowledge in the following areas:
•Single and 3 phase low voltage Electrical systems, components, and safety protocols
•Electrical and mechanical repair, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
•Power Transmission and Rotating Equipment... Bearings; Couplings; Shaft alignment; Belt / Chain drives; Gearboxes.
•Pneumatic / Hydraulic and Vacuum Systems… Valve types – solenoid, proportional; Cylinder operation; Working with relevant diagrams
•Induction heating processes.
•Powder handling equipment
•Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
•Develop Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
•Develop professional communication and customer service skills.
•Gain a recognised electrical apprenticeship programme certificate.
•Following reactive Preventive and Predictive Maintenance programs.
•Safe working practices in accordance with Health & Safety legislation
•Identifying and planning part requirement and correct stock.
•Facilities maintenance tasks in addition to machine maintenance.
•To undertake training on the maintenance of new equipment as required
•Continuous improvement and project management. (5S, SMED, and lean initiatives).
Requirements
Qualifications
•Minimum of 16 years of age
•Minimum education of at least 5 GCSEs at Grade C or equivalent, including Mathematics, English and a Science.
•A strong work ethic and a genuine interest in how things are built and fixed
•The ability to work in a team as well as on your own
•You must be able to commute to the site in Newport and the training location in Cwmbran for the duration of your apprenticeship.
