As an Administrative Assistant with TAS you will work closely with the Nursing team to provide administrative support as well as caring for patients. This involves performing as part of a team in order to ensure the smooth daily running of the unit. Most importantly, it means maintaining the highest standards of care and effectiveness.Therapeutic Apheresis Services (TAS) in NHS Blood & Transplant is a vital area of modern healthcare, improving patient outcomes and saving lives. As an enthusiastic and motivated individual, your talents can make a positive difference to our team based in The Christie Hospital, Manchester.The Therapeutic Apheresis Services team delivers a range of therapeutic apheresis procedures for patients across the country. These include performing stem cell harvests and white cell depletions; providing plasma exchanges for neurology, renal and haematology patients; carrying out red cell exchanges for patients with sickle cell disease.


Main duties of the job

In this role within our Therapeutic Apheresis Services (TAS) Unit you will be the first point of contact for internal and external colleagues. Your responsibilities will include:Co-ordinating the administration for the unit including dealing with telephone calls, updating and organising diaries, collation of test results and filing of confidential patient/donor informationWorking on your own as well as part of a larger team of specialist nurses. Managing your workload to ensure tasks are prioritised to meet specific deadlinesManaging data collection, data entry and maintenance of spreadsheets and databasesManaging stock levels of medical and administrative equipment to support workloads, ordering and receiving stock, and maintaining storage areas.Supporting your line manager with meeting arrangements, which includes booking meeting rooms, creating agendas and minute takingAttending training and development sessions at locations across the country and visiting hospitals in the region for patient record management.During busy times, you will be required to support members of the nursing team by providing basic care for patients, donors and visitors attending the unit. This will include welcoming people on to the unit, making refreshments and helping patients and donors who may feel nervous.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Educated to GCSE level 4 or higher nationals equivalent in Maths and English
* A level or NVQ level 3 or equivalent relevant experience
* Demonstrates commitment to own continous learning and development


Experience

* Knowledge and experience of working with Information Technology, including using Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel and Outlook)
* Demonstrate understanding of how to maintain patient/donor records, including other NHS Trusts documents, ensuring compliance with Data Protection and patient/donor confidentiality.
* Previous experience of working with a team of people
