Job Summary
Provide comprehensive administrative support at a GP surgery in Highgate, Birmingham, ensuring the efficient operation of patient fronts, telephone handling, record management, and compliance with clinical protocols.
Key Responsibilities
* Answer telephone calls politely and accurately, taking and passing messages.
* Administer repeat prescription protocol.
* Ensure pathology samples are available for collection.
* Obtain telephone contacts for doctors and practice nurses on request.
* Make routine telephone calls and inquiries as required.
* Process registration applications and adhere to patient registration protocols.
* Register new patients onto the computer system promptly and accurately.
* Maintain current patient data (addresses, phone numbers, name changes) in the computer records.
* Provide administrative support to the primary health care team (photocopying, scanning, filing, franking mail).
* Maintain the computerised appointment system and assist patients with queries.
* Maintain front‑of‑house protocols and tidiness of the reception area.
* Support practice policies and procedures, updating them with the Practice Manager.
* Participate in audits and contribute to practice meetings.
* Support confidentiality, health & safety, equality & diversity, and professional development activities as outlined in the role.
Essential Qualifications
* GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.
* Relevant professional or vocational qualification appropriate to the role (e.g., NVQ Level 2/3 in Business Administration, Health & Social Care or equivalent experience).
* Evidence of continuous professional development.
Essential Experience
* Minimum one year of experience working in a GP surgery or primary care setting.
* Experience providing excellent customer or patient service in a fast‑paced environment.
* Experience using IT systems confidently, including clinical systems such as EMIS or SystmOne.
* Experience working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Permanent contract, Part‑time role.
Salary
£12.21 to £12.71 per hour.
