An excellent opportunity for an experienced Project Design Engineer to join a well-established company based in Birtley, Gateshead.

About the Role:
The company’s Design Engineers are responsible for the technical project delivery of hydraulic systems. Their duties include designing, planning, and delivering projects to meet customer needs. The scope of engineering builds may include hydraulic power units, control consoles, bespoke hydraulic systems, and manifolds.
The project owner will provide technical information and documentation to customers, suppliers, subcontractors, and hydraulic technicians. They will maintain constant communication with the customer to ensure all commercial, technical, and financial targets are met. The role involves presence in the workshop and on-site, with activities such as mechanical assembly and commissioning.

Main Duties:
1. Communicate with customers
2. Review and clarify customer requirements
3. Prepare engineering drawings and hydraulic schematics
4. Prepare quotations and technical specifications
5. Carry out engineering calculations
6. Select and size components to optimize system performance and cost
7. Resolve problems and improve manufacturability and serviceability of products
8. Prepare technical specifications for subcontractors
9. Prepare technical documents such as work instructions, risk assessments, mechanical and electrical drawings, hydraulic schematics, procedures, and reports
10. Support technicians and engineers during testing and commissioning
11. Control work after completion and issue as-built final documents
12. Ensure compliance with customer requirements
13. Ensure project financial targets are met
14. Review project KPIs for debriefing
15. Attend site or workshop when required
16. Support in all areas of work where appropriate

Candidate Requirements:
* 2:1 Bachelor's degree or equivalent in mechanical engineering
* Minimum 3 years’ experience
* Ability to carry out engineering calculations
* Knowledge of hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical/control systems
* Time management skills for multitasking
* Understanding of manufacturing processes and construction methods
* Proficiency in CAD software, preferably Autodesk Inventor
* Interest in working both in desk and workshop environments
* Creative approach for generating new ideas
* Strong background in math and science
* Clear communication skills, both written and verbal
* Skilled in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
* Eligible to work permanently in the UK
* Full driving license
KPI’s:
* On-time, within-specification, and within-budget delivery of projects
* Design compliance to customer specifications and standards
* Preparation of tenders and quotations with at least 10% conversion rate
