Offer description

The Opportunity Dudley is a town with a proud industrial heart, currently undergoing a multi-million-pound regeneration focused on education and innovation. We are seeking an insightful and academically driven Psychology Teacher to join a 'Good' secondary school and sixth form. In this role, you will guide students through the complexities of the human mind and behaviour, helping them apply psychological theories to contemporary social issues within the Black Country and beyond. The Department & Academic Culture You will join a growing Social Sciences faculty where Psychology is one of the most popular and high-attaining subjects at Key Stage 5. The department fosters a "university-prep" atmosphere, encouraging students to move beyond surface-level understanding to engage in critical debate and independent research. As a 'Good' school, we emphasize the bridge between theory and practice, utilizing case studies from clinical, forensic, and social psychology to make the curriculum tangible. The faculty is known for its supportive peer-review culture, where teachers collaborate on developing high-level resources for the AQA or OCR specifications. Core Responsibilities Advanced Instructional Delivery: Teaching A-Level Psychology, covering core domains such as Social Influence, Memory, Attachment, and Psychopathology. Research Methods Mastery: Equipping students with the tools to design, conduct, and analyse psychological research, focusing on both quantitative and qualitative data. Biopsychology Integration: Explaining the biological underpinnings of behaviour, including the structure of the nervous system and the impact of neurochemistry on mental health. Critical Evaluation: Training students to "think like a psychologist" by evaluating the validity and reliability of famous studies, from Milgram’s obedience to Loftus’s eyewitness testimony. Exam Excellence: Implementing rigorous assessment cycles and providing detailed feedback on 16-mark essay structures and application-based questions. The Successful Candidate We are looking for a subject specialist who can translate abstract theories into fascinating classroom discussions. Requirements include: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS and a strong honours degree in Psychology or a related Social Science. Specialist Knowledge: A deep understanding of the current A-Level specifications and the ability to teach the "Issues and Debates" component with nuance. Analytical Approach: The ability to support students in mastering the mathematical requirements of the Research Methods module (e.g., descriptive and inferential statistics). Engaging Presence: A teacher who can foster a classroom environment where students feel confident debating sensitive topics with empathy and scientific rigor. Why Join Us? A role in a school where Psychology is a flagship elective, ensuring high levels of student motivation and engagement. Access to specialized professional development through the Black Country and West Midlands teaching school networks. The opportunity to work in Dudley—a town offering excellent local amenities, a rich cultural history (including the Black Country Living Museum), and easy commuting links to Birmingham and Wolverhampton. A professional community that values the Social Sciences as essential for developing well-rounded, empathetic, and critical-thinking citizens. How to Apply Please submit your current CV and a brief statement outlining your experience in teaching A-Level Research Methods to begin the application process.
