EducationManagerQualifications-Chemistry(GCE&GCSE) Permanent £46k-£57k CCEA places itself at the heart of the Northern Ireland community, with a remit that includes the development of the school curriculum, regulating qualifications and conducting examinations and assessment. The Education Manager for Chemistry will provide high quality delivery, development and support of CCEA GCE AS/A2 Chemistry, GCSE Chemistry, GCSE Double Award Science and GCSE Single Award Science: Chemistry qualifications and as required, in relation to curriculum matters at Key Stage 3. The post-holder will also be responsible for overseeing and managing work related to the development, conduct, technical operation, support and marketing of examinations/qualifications as well as contributing to relevant work across the business. The successful applicant will be highly motivated with at least 3 years-experience of teaching Chemistry up to GCE level (or above) and have experience of working as an educationalist in a related subject area (at mid-management level). Conditions of Appointment Post: Education Manager, Qualifications - Chemistry (GCE & GCSE) Appointment: The appointment will be made by the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment acting in accordance with its powers under the Education and Libraries (Northern Ireland) Order 1993 and its Recruitment Code and procedures. All appointments are subject to two satisfactory references, a satisfactory pre-employment medical and satisfactory assessment of any criminal conviction disclosures. These checks will be carried out only after you have been recommended for appointment. Prior to starting duties, appointed candidates must supply proof of eligibility to work in the UK and evidence of educational qualifications, where applicable. Term: This post is on a permanent contract basis. Location: Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment, 29 Clarendon Road, Clarendon Dock, Belfast, BT1 3BG. Car parking: Unfortunately, CCEA has only a limited car parking facility for staff. However convenient car parking is available nearby at reasonable rates. Requirements: See Person Specification for full details on essential and desirable criteria. Probation: A new appointment shall be subject to a term of probation of six months. Workinghours: Employment will be of a full-time nature and the postholder will be required to work the equivalent of 36hours per week excluding lunch breaks. Salary: Salary will be paid monthly in arrears by the BACS system on or before the last banking day of the month. The salary for this post will be on the NJC scale points 37 - 47, currently £46,731 - £57,186 per annum. Annual leave: You would be entitled to 26-34 days annual leave. The leave year runs from 1 April to 31 March each year. Entitlement in the leave year 2025/26 will be calculated on a pro-rata basis depending on the number of full weeks worked in this leave year. In addition, you would be entitled to statutory days with pay as follows: New Years Day, St Patricks Day, Easter Monday, Easter Tuesday, May Day, Spring Bank Holiday, July 12 and 13, Summer Bank Holiday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day plus one extra-statutory holiday to be determined by the Council after consultation with the employees. CCEA premises will be closed from Christmas to New Year. To effect this closure, you would be required to use two days leave. Pension: CCEA operates two pension schemes which you may be eligible to join/transfer: the Local Government Pension Scheme for NI (NILGOSC) or, if you are joining from a teaching background, DENI Teachers Pension Scheme. Job Description Post: Education Manager - Chemistry (GCE & GCSE) Department: Qualifications Grade: Senior Professional Group (SPG) Reports to: Programme Manager, Science and Contractor Relations Scope The Education Manager for Chemistry will provide high quality delivery, development and support for a number of CCEA GCE and GCSE Science qualifications and as required, in relation to curriculum matters at Key Stage 3 and 4. The post-holder will also be required to contribute to work across the wider organisation. Key corporate responsibilities To contribute fully, at the appropriate level, to the operations of the relevant Business Unit in order to achieve the objectives of CCEAs Corporate and Operational Plans. To contribute fully, at the appropriate level, within the relevant Business Unit to CCEAs: accountabilityandperformancemanagementframework; riskmanagementframework; qualitymanagementframework;and communications management framework. The post holder will ensure the compliance of self and, where appropriate, others with these frameworks such that they support the achievement of CCEAs Corporate and Operational objectives. To assist the relevant line management, Business Unit Manager, Director and Executive Team in supporting the functions and responsibilities of CCEA and all of its committees. To ensure, as appropriate to the level of the post, that CCEA secures value for money from the resources available to it. To ensure, as appropriate to the level of the post, that CCEA operates an effective and transparent system of decision-making which includes a robust challenge function at all levels. To contribute fully, as appropriate to the level of the post, to the full range of the Business Units work in relation to business improvement models including ISO, IiP and Customer Excellence, taking ownership, where applicable, for formal documentation, policies, practices, procedures, records, reports and statistical information. The post holder will be required to identify measures and targets to develop meaningful approaches to benchmarking consistent with a culture of continuous improvement. To be responsible for maintaining CCEA records in accordance with the ISO Overview Procedure and to become familiar with records management practices and the implication of the Freedom of Information (FoI), UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Data Protection (DP) Acts. To contribute to the effective discharge of the Section 75 duties in line with CCEAs Equality Scheme. To carry out any other duties, as appropriate to the level of the post, to support the achievement of CCEAs objectives as directed by line management, Business Unit Managers and Executive Team. 3Keyaccountabilities The greater part of the work for the post holder will be in the area of qualifications and assessment. The post holder may be required to contribute to the development of support and guidance for the Science Area of Learning at Key Stage 3 and 4. The Education Manager for Chemistry will be responsible for overseeing and managing work related to the development, conduct, technical operation, support and marketing of examinations/qualifications for a number of specifications within their nominated sector. The Education Manager for Chemistry will undertake and manage work to ensure: accurate and timely delivery of outcomes of key technical processes standardising, marking and awarding across multiple examination series annually; the development of relevant and emerging specifications to meet customer needs in terms of advice, support and guidance including as required, in relation to curriculum matters at Key Stage 3 and 4; the development, monitoring and review of processes leading to the accurate and timely delivery of question papers and assessments including reviewing, editing and quality assuring the work of others to provide personal quality assurance to line management, Business Unit Managers and Executive Team across multiple examination series annually; the management, training and performance management of examining teams to ensure high levels of accuracy in the technical areas of marking, moderation, question paper production and awarding; the development, monitoring and review of the annual operational plan, individual appraisal objectives, and appropriate project plans and risk registers; the design, management and quality assurance of commissioned development work in relation to specifications, question papers, texts and web-based support/computer adaptive materials; the meeting of customer needs in terms of advice, support and guidance; the development and marketing of CCEA qualifications to increase market share; the implementation of actions to ensure quality outcomes from auditing exercises or inspections; the scheduling and monitoring of all work to meet operational and project objectives; the provision of advice and guidance on appropriate aspects of CCEAs role in the regulation of qualifications; the appropriate liaison with Regulatory and Awarding Body personnel, professional associations, Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) and personal responsibility to adopt positive relationships with other educational stakeholders; the development of appropriate channels of communication both internally and externally to facilitate delivery, quality, continuous improvement and optimum use of technology across all areas of work; the development of appropriate criteria and modes of assessment to allow for innovative and relevant qualifications; the implementation of measures to ensure that examining teams keep up to date with assessment research and development, particularly in relation to computer adaptive technology, on-line assessment processes and use of technology for the technical areas of examinations and assessment; as required, to support CCEA meet its statutory responsibilities to keep all aspects of the curriculum, examinations and assessments under review, advise DE on matters concerned with the curriculum, assessment and examinations; and develop support and guidance for use in schools; as required to undertake any other duties, as appropriate to the level of the post, to support the team objectives as directed by line management. 4Keypeoplemanagementresponsibilities The post-holder will be required to manage teams of examiners/scrutineers/revisers associated with the areas for which he/she is accountable.
