The opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Email Marketing Manager (temp to perm) to lead the strategic setup and operational execution of our email marketing initiatives using Dot Digital. This role offers the opportunity to shape and implement a world-class email marketing strategy for the National Schools Partnership, leveraging automation, personalisation, segmentation and advanced analytics to enhance audience engagement and drive results for our clients.

As a key member of our marketing team, you will own the end-to-end process of designing, implementing, and optimising our email marketing approach. This includes building workflows, managing triggers, aligning email campaigns with audience journeys and ensuring adherence to industry best practices. Your work will ensure our email communications are impactful, efficient and aligned with broader organisational objectives.

Responsibilities

Strategy and planning

* Develop and implement a comprehensive email marketing strategy that aligns with business goals and campaign objectives.
* Define and refine audience segments for targeted campaigns, using data-driven insights to test and optimise segment performance.
* Identify and prioritize key behavioural trigger emails, including welcome series, re-engagement, journey abandonment, upsell and milestone emails.
* Create a detailed email marketing roadmap that balances short-term goals with long-term growth strategies. testing and analysing segment performance.

Automation and workflows

* Design and implement decision trees, workflows for automation and triggers for email campaigns in Dot Digital.
* Build and test automation workflows, including campaign-specific triggers and general communications for key user segments.
* Audit existing processes and ensure alignment with workflows developed as part of our new NSP website.

Operational excellence

* Establish automated reporting systems to monitor and track key performance metrics, ensuring data is accessible and actionable.
* Set up clear audience segmentation guidelines, defining criteria for segment creation and maintenance.
* Define and document roles and responsibilities (R&Rs) for email planning, creation, review, schedule and deployment
* Implement a robust approval process for email lists and schedules to minimize overlap and ensure compliance.

Content and creative alignment

* Collaborate with content and creative teams to ensure email templates are visually engaging, mobile-friendly and brand-aligned.
* Implement dynamic content and personalisation strategies, tailoring emails to individual user preferences and behaviours.
* Optimise subject lines, CTAs and email copy through A/B testing to enhance engagement and conversion.

Compliance and Best Practices

* Ensure all email marketing activities comply with GDPR and other relevant regulations.
* Regularly review and optimise processes to align with industry standards and email marketing best practices.
* Conduct regular audits of the email setup, identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement.

Innovation and Optimization

* Continuously evaluate and optimise email campaigns using insights from analytics, customer feedback, and industry trends.
* Leverage Dot Digital features like AI-driven recommendations, advanced reporting, and dynamic content to enhance campaigns.
* Identify opportunities for innovation, such as interactive emails, AMP emails, and omni-channel integration.

Dot Digital Expertise and Training

* Create a detailed internal guide for using Dot Digitals advanced features, empowering team members with knowledge of the platform’s capabilities.
* Act as the subject matter expert for Dot Digital, providing guidance on best practices and troubleshooting complex issues.
* Innovation and Optimization
* Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of email campaigns, leveraging A/B testing, analytics, and user feedback to drive improvements.
* Keep up to date with email marketing trends and technologies, ensuring our approach remains cutting-edge and effective.

Skills

* Strong expertise in Dot Digital or equivalent email marketing platforms, with deep knowledge of advanced features.
* Proficient in designing and executing automation workflows, behavioural triggers, and decision tree mapping.
* Advanced understanding of audience segmentation, personalization, and dynamic content strategies.
* Skilled in tracking and analyzing key email performance metrics and using data to inform strategic decisions.
* Experience in creating detailed process documentation, playbooks, and training materials for internal teams.
* Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to balance strategic thinking and operational execution.
* Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
* Excellent project management and collaboration skills, with a proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives.

Experience

* 5+ years of experience in email marketing, with a proven track record of designing and implementing successful email campaigns.
* Expertise in Dot Digital or similar email marketing platforms, including advanced features such as automation, personalisation, segmentation, and reporting.
* Demonstrated ability to develop and execute behaviour-driven email automations and workflows, including mapping decision trees and setting up triggers.
* Experience conducting audits of email marketing setups and optimizing systems to align with strategic goals.
* Proficient in audience segmentation, with experience defining, testing, and refining target groups to drive engagement and conversions.
* Solid understanding of email performance metrics (e.g., open rates, CTR, unsubscribe rates) and the ability to set up automated reporting systems.
* Previous experience creating internal guidelines or playbooks for email marketing best practices and platform usage.
* Experience defining and managing approval processes and team roles for email creation, scheduling, and review.
* Strong analytical skills, with the ability to use data insights to drive decision-making and optimise campaigns.
* Experience working in a fast-paced environment with cross-functional teams, balancing multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail.

Preferred:

* Experience working on large-scale email campaigns targeting diverse audiences.
* Familiarity with marketing automation strategy and integrating email campaigns with broader CRM or digital marketing efforts.
* Understanding of compliance and best practices related to GDPR and email marketing regulations.
