Job Description Ultra Precision Control Systems are looking for a Trade Compliance Manager to join the team on a Fixed Term Contract (FTC). To ensure compliance with export and import controls and regulations, manage the company’s Inward Processing approvals and non-inventory shipments of demonstration, exhibition and loan equipment. As a member of the Trade Compliance Team, act as a point of contact (internally and externally) for Customs export and import transactions. This role is a Fixed Term Contract. Key Responsibilities: Ensure PCS SBU compliance with import and export Customs legislation, and Ultra Group and PCS policies, processes and procedures. Management responsibility for developing and maintaining Customs processes and ensuring compliance across PCS SBU sites. Proactively identify potential for non-compliance with import or export legislation in the business and recommend and implement of corrective actions. Ensure that clearance instructions are issued to our freight forwarders for incoming shipments and ensure they have been issued correctly. Obtain amendments as required. Check the accuracy of freight forwarder invoices in relation to Customs charges; approve invoices. Management of the correct operation of all aspects of the company’s Inward Processing process, submit quarterly Bills of Discharge to HMRC and track usage across the PCS SBU. Propose and prepare amendments as required. Manage preferential origin assessments and declarations for PCS customers. Management lead for the implementation of special customs procedures to achieve reduction in import duties. Responsibility for the efficient handling of export clearance requirements. Manage the tracking of temporary exports and liaise with the relevant PCS teams to ensure timely return of goods. Ensure that the most beneficial customs procedures are used to minimise the import duty impact on the business. Responsibility for the management of PCS SBU internal and Head Office-nominated monthly checks on customs entries. Management responsibility for relevant customs documentation required for PCS personnel travelling abroad with hardware. Management of regulatory analysis to determine the correct tariff classification and country of origin of hardware. Responsibility for the management and development of staff. Management of Customs-related PCS SBU external and internal compliance audits across all sites. Provide staff training and technical instruction support across the PCS SBU as appropriate. Management support to all aspects of the PCS SBU regarding all matters related to import and export Customs compliance. Ensure PCS SBU adherence to company policies and procedures to ensure accreditation requirements are consistently met. Lead continuous improvement teams and initiatives in the Trade Compliance function. Involvement with the management of orders for export-controlled product, to ensure the correct export authorisations and licences are in place prior to shipment. Undertake any other tasks as required to support the PCS SBU. Required Skills & Experience: At least 5 years’ experience in the defence sector At least 5 years’ experience in Trade Compliance (Customs and Export Controls) and/or a related discipline. Experience of managing small teams Experience of controlling and reporting of movements under Inward Processing and other Customs Special Procedures Experience of working directly with External/Internal auditors, Government bodies (e.g. HMRC) Highly organised Ability to meet deadlines and manage varying workload Ability to problem-solve independently and as part of a team Ability to design, develop and maintain processes and procedures Ability to build productive relationships at all levels inside and outside the organisation. Awareness of export control regulations and procedures desirable Nationality Requirements Candidates must be able to work in the UK without restrictions in accordance with UK National Law and be prepared to successfully undertake an appropriate level of UK National Security Vetting according to UK Government National Security Vetting criteria.
