Overview
The successful candidate will join the current team of four Electrophysiology Consultants in contributing towards the provision and development of the Electrophysiology service within the region. The Lancashire Cardiac Centre (LCC) serves a population of 1.8 million across The Lake District / South Cumbria and Lancashire including The Fylde Coast, Blackpool, Preston, The Ribble Valley, Blackburn & Burnley.
There are two cath labs out of five currently set up for EP, providing a high volume of approximately 800 procedures performed annually. The unit has all three mapping tools – Biosense Webster, Abbott and Boston Scientific, with single shot technology including Cryo and Laser Balloon Ablation. Experience and willingness to further develop skills will be supported.
We value teaching and research, and the successful candidate will contribute towards the weekly teaching and supervision of trainees.
Clinical Responsibilities
* EP Lab – weekly
* OPD2 – weekly
* Ward rounds – weekly
* On call duties – 1:10 Saturday and Sunday
* Consultant of the week – 1 in 20 week
* Patient administration – weekly 1.5
* NB Cath lab sessions – flexible to cover colleagues leave and on call duties
* General cardiology – consultant of the week on a rotational basis and weekend cover as part of a seven‑day consultant led service
Qualifications and Experience
* Full registration with the General Medical Council or relevant professional regulator
* MB ChB or equivalent
* MRCP or equivalent
* Higher degree (MD/PhD)
* Subspecialty training in Electrophysiology
* Independent operator
* Awareness of NHS organisation and core values of NHS
* Excellent communication skills – both oral and written and in English language
* Ability to organise and prioritise workload and to delegate responsibility and supervise staff
* Effective teaching skills
* Ability to motivate and inspire a multi‑disciplinary team and work sensitively within teams and across organisations
* Involvement and evidence of implementation of service development and managing change in a healthcare setting
* Understanding of the management responsibilities of NHS consultants
* Participation in a management training course
* Commitment to CPD and requirements of clinical governance and audit
* Leadership skills – ability to take responsibility, show leadership and make decisions
* Computer and IT skills
* Educational qualification or working towards
* Post CCT fellowship (desirable)
* BHRS/EHRA/I BHRE Accreditation in electrophysiology (desirable)
