Learning Support Assistant (SEN) – West Sussex

Teaching Personnel is proud to be working in close partnership with a number of Outstanding SEN schools across West Sussex. These schools support pupils with a wide range of special educational needs, including autism, ADHD, SEMH, and moderate to severe learning difficulties.

We’re looking for compassionate, resilient Learning Support Assistants who are driven by one thing: making a genuine, lasting difference in the lives of young people with additional needs.

The Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you’ll play a vital role in helping pupils feel safe, supported, and ready to learn. Working closely with teachers, therapists, SENCOs, and pastoral teams, you’ll provide tailored support that helps pupils build confidence, develop independence, and achieve their personal and academic goals.

You’ll be supporting learning both in and out of the classroom, adapting your approach to meet each pupil’s individual needs.


Key Responsibilities

* Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with ASC, ADHD, SEMH needs, and learning difficulties
* Support the delivery of individual education plans and behaviour support strategies
* Build strong, trusting relationships that promote emotional wellbeing and positive social development
* Encourage engagement and motivation through creative, differentiated learning support
* Help pupils develop self-regulation skills and make positive behavioural choices
* Support pupils during transitions, breaktimes, and lunch to ensure consistency and safety
* Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCOs, and external professionals
* Record observations and contribute to progress reviews and reports
* Uphold safeguarding, confidentiality, and professional standards at all times


What We’re Looking For

* Full-time availability (Monday–Friday, term time only)
* A caring, patient, and empathetic approach
* Experience working with children or young people (education, care, youth work, or similar) – highly desirable
* A proactive mindset and willingness to learn and develop
* Ability to drive is highly advantageous due to school locations
* A Child Only Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply through Teaching Personnel

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
