The Role Job Title: Teacher of Classics (fixed term) Department: Classics Line Manager: Head of Department Basis: Part Time Maternity Cover Start Date: Spring Term 2026. An opportunity has arisen to join our outstanding Classics department at Moreton Hall on a fixed term basis to cover a period of maternity leave. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and committed teacher of Classics, capable of meeting the rewarding challenge of inspiring our students, both inside and outside the classroom. Latin and Classical Civilisation is taught from our upper Juniors (Years 5 & 6), Lower Senior School and offered at GCSE and A level.
Responsibilities
* Ensure the best possible academic outcomes for pupils through planning, preparing and delivering courses and lessons to a high standard.
* Assess, record and report on the development, progress and attainment of pupils to inform pupil tracking and attend all parents' evenings.
* Provide or contribute to written assessments and reports relating to individual pupils and groups of pupils.
* Promote and encourage the study of Classics to all pupils.
* Adapt teaching according to the educational needs of individual pupils, including those with Learning Support requirements.
* Prepare and deliver engaging lessons in a positive and purposeful learning environment.
* Advise and co-operate with others on the preparation, development and review of teaching programmes, teaching materials.
* Assist the Head of Department in the planning and preparation of new schemes of work and contribute to the departmental resource banks.
* Prepare pupils for public examinations and assist with preparation, invigilation and assessment of internal examinations.
* Provide guidance and advice to a tutor group, as part of a wider team of year group and House tutors.
* Supervise pupils as part of a House tutor team; this will include carrying out an evening House duty and occasional Saturday Academic Enrichment Programme morning and Sunday trip.
Person Specification
* Qualifications: The successful applicant will be educated to a degree level in a relevant subject. A teaching qualification is desirable.
* Experience: Will have experience of teaching at GCSE and A level. They will have an interest in fostering lifelong learning in our pupils and the ability to stretch pupils beyond the curriculum.
* Personal Qualities: An enthusiastic, organised, team-player, ready to nurture aspiration whilst managing expectations.
During term time staff will be expected to attend personally to such duties connected with the work of the School during any hours, including out of school hours, as the Principal may reasonably direct. All teachers will be expected to make a contribution to the extensive extra curricular programme.
