Job Description
A tier one contractor specialising in building the sustainable lifelines for the transport, infrastructure and energy markets and an industry-leading and award-winning UK&I provider in rail electrification is looking to hire a Senior Estimator to join their Glasgow office.
The Senior Estimator will join the UK & Ireland Work Winning team, ensuring the production of accurate and comprehensive estimates in a timely and efficient manner.
Main Duties:
- Work closely with the Head of Estimating and Commercial team develop accurate and comprehensive estimates for a range of rail and energy tenders.
- This role will be based within the Rail and Energy sectors, working on a variety of projects throughout the UK & Ireland.
- Assisting to identify new tender opportunities and working with the operational team to establish resource availability against the proposed works.
- Working alongside different departments, including the operational teams, planners and Quantity Surveyors.
- Estimating from First Principles.
- Creating comprehensive cost plans and estimates.
- Ensuring estimates are both accurate and timely and supporting the team accordingly to develop these skills.
- Build rapport and relationships with key clients and stakeholders.
- Applying and using recognised, appropriate method of measurement rules in the preparation of all estimates.
- Prepare risk and opportunity assessments and contribute to value engineering initiatives.
- Maintain and update cost databases and benchmarking tools.
- Support bid strategy meetings and client presentations.
- Mentor less experienced estimators and contribute to team development.
The person:
- Significant experience of working in a rail background and or transmission and distribution within an estimating / commercial role.
- Relevant degree in construction management, civil engineering, Quantity Surveying or a related field degree level or significant demonstrated knowledge.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience of working within an senior/managing estimating, commercial planning type role.
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Candy, Causeway, CostX, or similar).
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of working on small and larger project values- ability to adapt to requirements and needs of the client.
- High level of experience of producing detailed costs breakdowns and estimates and able to review cost rates and productivity rates over different shifts.
- Ability to produce reports and present data, calculations and findings.
Salary: In the region of £55,000 - £68,000 dependant on level of experience plus car / allowance and package
