Job Summary
The Lead Practice Nurse provides clinical leadership and management to the nursing team, ensuring delivery of safe and evidence‑based care. The role combines leadership duties with face‑to‑face clinical time, supporting chronic disease management, clinical governance, and quality improvement.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide professional leadership to the nursing team and represent them within senior management.
* Ensure national standards for quality and service improvement are met.
* Lead infection control for the practice, keeping policies up to date and producing annual audits.
* Support team development and new role implementation; ensure staff competencies are met.
* Promote a learning environment and support ongoing professional development.
* Participate in research and audit where required.
* Balance nursing service delivery with broader organisational goals and financial constraints.
* Deliver nursing services to patients within the practice (details in attached practice nurse duties).
* Oversee clinical management of long‑term conditions such as asthma, COPD, diabetes, and CHD.
* Utilise EMIS computer system – a significant advantage.
Person Specification
Essential
* Registered Nurse (RGN) with current NMC membership.
* Experience working as a Practice Nurse in general practice.
* Qualifications and experience in long‑term condition care (e.g., asthma, COPD, diabetes, CHD).
Desirable
* Additional qualifications in long‑term conditions.
* Leg ulcer qualification.
* Nurse prescriber status.
* Experience leading a team in primary care.
Qualifications and Conditions
