A well-established, design-led engineering consultancy in Bristol is looking to appoint a Senior / Principal Civil Engineer to play a key role in its growing infrastructure team. The practice works across a wide range of development-led projects, supporting clients from early feasibility through to detailed design and construction.
The business has a strong reputation for delivering high-quality civil engineering solutions across residential, commercial, mixed-use and regeneration schemes, with particular expertise in highways, drainage and infrastructure design. Projects range from smaller bespoke developments to large-scale masterplanning schemes across the UK.
The Role
You'll take a leading role in the design, coordination, and delivery of civil engineering projects, working closely with directors, clients, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver practical, buildable solutions. Depending on experience, the role offers clear scope for technical leadership, client-facing responsibility, and team management.
Key responsibilities include:
* Leading the detailed design of drainage (SuDS), highways, and external works
* Managing projects from concept through to construction delivery
* Preparing and reviewing technical drawings, reports, and calculations
* Acting as a key point of contact for clients, local authorities, and key stakeholders
* Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior and intermediate engineers
* Contributing to bids, fee proposals, and project strategy (Principal level)
About You
* Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering (or similar)
* Strong experience within a UK civil engineering consultancy
* Solid technical background in drainage and highway design standards
* Confident using software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroDrainage (or similar)
* Chartered or working towards Chartership with ICE (or equivalent)
* Comfortable leading projects and engaging directly with clients
