About Ignite Hubs
Ignite Hubs is an education charity for children and young people aged 7 to 18 years old. Our mission is to ignite the potential of young minds by widening their horizons and providing them with the skills, connections and experiences to access and pursue meaningful careers and lead fulfilling lives.
We aim to provide the best learning environment for children and young people from all backgrounds and abilities. We place a special emphasis on engaging underrepresented groups, including girls, ethnic minorities, and those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
We currently teach coding, STEM and creative writing teaching over 200 students each week and have positively impacted more than 1,000 children and young people since we started. Our educational offerings include five weekly virtual classes and four weekly in-person classes during term time at various libraries throughout Southwark, SE London.
Our long-term ambition is to offer nationwide classes, workshops and events to children and young people on a wide variety of subjects under our five educational Hubs: Code, STEM, Innovation & Enterprise, Creativity and Health & Wellbeing.
Role & Responsibilities
We are looking for an experienced Book Editor Project Manager with publishing experience to lead and grow our publishing and literacy initiatives for children and young people.
Our STEM Career Book Series introduces children aged 9 to 12 to roles in STEM through exciting and engaging stories. Our third title, Virtual Combat, which focuses on cybersecurity, is scheduled for publication in July 2025 and is being funded by a corporate partner. We plan to publish further titles in the series through additional corporate sponsorships.
You will also play a key role in launching and growing our STEM Reading Challenge, supporting our Creative Writing Programme, and developing resources for our Online Learning Platform.
This is an exciting and multi-dimensional role that will help transform lives through education.
Key Responsibilities
1. Publishing: STEM Career Book Series
* Lead the end-to-end editorial and production process for each title
* Manage relationships with writers, illustrators and designers
* Collaborate with the CEO to identify and secure corporate sponsors for future books
* Co-design and launch the STEM Reading Challenge in partnership with libraries.
* Curate age-appropriate book lists with input from subject matter experts and corporate partners.
* Develop engaging reading activities for students, teachers, and parents
* Help identify and secure funding, and sponsorship to support the challenge
3. Creative Writing Programme
* Collaborate with our Creative Writinginstructors to develop our literacy strategy and impact.
* Support the creation of learning pathways to help connect our classes to future career roles.
About You
* Proven experience in editorial project management, children’s publishing, or literary development
* A passion for storytelling and improving literacy among young people
* Strong editorial skills, particularly in children's or young adult fiction
* Experience developing or supporting educational/literacy programmes or reading initiatives
* Confidence in working with external partners and corporate sponsors
* Excellent communication, project management, and collaboration skills
* Skills in writing or developing complementary learning materials
