This is an excellent opportunity to obtain a Band 6 Specialist Podiatrist role within Podiatry Services at Livewell Southwest CIC based in Plymouth, Devon.

We have a wide ranging service covering primary, secondary and domiciliary care and with close working ties to our community nursing teams, orthotics service and tissue viability amongst others.

To work as a Specialist Podiatrist managing a caseload of patients who present with a range of complex wounds and tissue viability associated problems related to foot and lower limb conditions that necessitate specialist assessment, diagnostic, treatment, and evaluation skills.

To work as both a highly motivated team member and as an autonomous practitioner taking responsibility for all associated clinical and organisational tasks as defined by the job description.

To work in a variety of clinical settings and to maintain a domiciliary caseload as required by the Service including secondary care when required.

On a rotational basis provide care to patients across the pathway working within University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust setting, as well as within Livewell Southwest.

To be responsible for the provision of line‑management for a variety of clinical and non‑clinical staff as required by the Service.

To support senior service management with routine day‑to‑day management tasks as required.

All Livewell staff are expected to be able and willing to work across a 7 day service.


Job responsibilities

Overview:

The post holder will undertake a wide range of clinical duties delivering all aspects of general podiatric care with an emphasis on providing specialist high‑quality podiatric care.

The post requires the provision of this expert care and will incorporate the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of a range of patients presenting with (but not exclusively) diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, neuropathy, acute and chronic foot wounds, as well as those patients with general care needs.

In fulfilling this role, the post holder will work with service colleagues across all bandings and sub‑specialities as well as working in close liaison with colleagues from other services, including orthotic services, community nursing teams, wards, residential and nursing homes, and primary and secondary care including service colleagues and others within the local Diabetes MDT. The undertaking of domiciliary care is an important feature of this role.

The post holder will work across all service provision settings including but not limited to community clinics and hospitals, primary care settings, domiciliary settings and as required on a rotational basis, secondary care establishments. Staff rosters may vary depending on service capacity and demands and the post holder will provide cover as directed in managing these factors.

An additional function of this role will be the provision of line‑management to both clinical and non‑clinical staff as required.


Experience

* Experience of managing patients presenting with a range of podiatric needs including those with complex care requirements related to long‑term conditions e.g. diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis, neurological disorders.
* Experience in wound care management.
* Effective utilization of diagnostic tools, skills, test results and a range of interventions to manage patients presenting with lower limb related foot problems.
* Successful engagement of carers and relatives with patient care.
* Team and multidisciplinary working.
* Ability to use Microsoft office applications.
* Education or supervision of others.
* Webpacs.
* Participation in the process of audit, obtaining the necessary information and data.
* Contribution to policy, protocol and guidelines writing.
* Development and provision of wound care education to various levels of professional staff.


Knowledge

* Knowledge of the effect of disease on the foot and lower limb and their management e.g. painful neuropathy, complex wounds, infection.
* Charcots arthropathy.
* General knowledge of conditions other than diabetes which may affect the foot and lower limb and cause wounds and ulceration e.g. PAD.
* Knowledge of lower limb pressure relieving strategies and their implementation to minimize the risk of foot ulceration.
* Own and professional boundaries.
* Clinical Risk Management, governance and Health and Safety.
* Demonstrates understanding of local or national policies/drivers or recent influences effecting wound care/foot care.
* Ability to prescribe and issue suitable foot offloading adjuncts such as rear and fore foot off loaders, Pullman footwear, Salter slippers, heel.
* Advanced woundcare.


Qualifications

* HCPC registered Podiatrist.
* Significant, relevant experience or educated to postgraduate specialist knowledge obtained by formal/informal learning, training and practical experience in foot/lower limb wound care and diabetes related wound care.
* Diploma Podiatry M, BSc (Hons) Podiatry.
* IRMER.

Additional requirements

* Ability to frequently travel independently and in a timely manner between Livewell Southwest sites and community locations including areas not served by public transport.
