Birth Centre Manager - Epsom Hospital

This is a leadership position; the post holder will act as a professional role model, inspiring, leading and coordinating the birth centre team, behaving in an exemplary manner at all times. You will have responsibility for the day‑day management and organisation of midwife‑led intrapartum care in this setting, within available resources.
You will be accountable for the overall provision of excellence in midwife‑led birthing care, providing evidence based, woman‑centered midwifery care, delivered in a variety of models.
The post holder will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, other agencies and service user representatives.
Main duties of the job
* Facilitate and have responsibility for the effective assessment, implementation and evaluation of all midwife‑led intrapartum care within the Birth Centre.
* Monitor and evaluate standards of care in conjunction with other colleagues as part of the multiprofessional team, ensuring best practice.
* To assess the effectiveness of current practices within the Birth Centre team and introduce innovations that lead to improved quality of care.
* Be confident and competent in caring for women/birthing people who choose to birth outside of the guidelines and coordinate others in the delivery of this care.
* Be confident and competent in dealing with and leading obstetric emergencies and mobilising the team in the hospital: for example, collapse in the water, shoulder dystocia, postpartum haemorrhage, neonatal resuscitation, maternal resuscation, sepsis, unexpected breech birth and other emergencies.
* As the lead midwife, you will develop and maintain systems for clinical audit in conjunction with the Consultant Midwife team, risk management team and midwifery management.
* Advocate for women/birthing people and support them in their choices surrounding pregnancy and birth, whilst empowering them and promoting birth as a normal, physiological process.
* Facilitate Personalised Care Plan clinics for women/birthing people who are choosing to use the Birth Centre but are classified as "out of guidance".

Qualifications
* Current registration with NMC
* NLS accreditation
* Examination of the Newborn (NIPE) qualification
* Management/leadership course or qualification
* Attended relevant courses related to physiological birth
Experience
* Significant experience working as a Band 6 midwife
* Experience in caring for women across varying Maternity settings including birth centre
* Experience of post registration professional development
* Experience of working in a management role
* Experience undertaking clinical audit
* Evidence of implementing a change or innovation in practice
Skills and Knowledge
* Excellent clinical midwifery skills and knowledge
* Experience of using digital maternity systems (e.g. Badgernet, CERNER)
* Experience with conducting staff appraisals
* Experience with teaching staff groups
