BSMS Leadership and Education Fellow ST4+ (Worthing Hospital, UHS Sussex)

This 12‑month fixed‑term Higher Specialty Resident Doctor fellowship includes a PGCert in Healthcare Leadership and Commissioning from the British Society for Maternal & Paediatric Surgeons (BSMS). The role focuses on leading projects to improve urogynaecology services, including streamlining referral pathways, developing clinical skills in urodynamics, and addressing inappropriate referrals. The fellow will collaborate with primary‑care teams, physiotherapists, bladder and bowel nurses to build community hubs for managing pelvic organ prolapse and incontinence.
Key responsibilities
* Lead a project to enhance the urogynaecology service, collaborating with community teams and allied health professionals.
* Deliver education and training to trainees and multi‑professional groups, mentor colleagues, and support quality improvement initiatives.
* Develop community pelvic health hubs and manage project scoping, stakeholder engagement, progress monitoring, and reporting.
* Maintain clinical skills through 40% clinical duties: second‑tier on‑call support, outpatient sessions, departmental operations.
* Attend BSMS programmes, regional/national educational events, and complete the PG Cert in Healthcare Leadership and Commissioning.
* Present findings, poster presentations, and knowledge sharing with stakeholders.
Qualifications and experience
* First medical degree, higher specialty qualifications, and full GMC registration.
* Experience in urogynaecology (clinical or research background).
* Project management skills and experience leading projects.
* Experience with audit and quality improvement.
* Strong written and verbal communication, teaching and education experience.
* Computer literacy and proficiency with clinical databases.
* Ability to work in multi‑professional teams and manage NHS clinical governance.
* Distinctions/Honours/Prizes (if applicable).

Working conditions
60% project work (leadership & education), 40% clinical duties (including on‑call, outpatient, and departmental operations). Non‑clinical days include Fridays for BSMS module attendance. The fellowship will be based at Worthing Hospital with cross‑site collaboration with the urogynaecology team at St Richards Hospital.
