Are you an enthusiastic, caring experienced Healthcare Support Worker? An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our friendly and supportive team in Haematology/Chemotherapy Suite. The suite is situated within the Brunel Building at Southmead Hospital.
The chemotherapy suite is open 0800-1800 Monday to Friday and provides treatments for patients with blood cancer. Examples of intravenou s therapies and treatments we deliver include chemotherapy, biologics, bisphosphonates, blood transfusions, and bone marrow biopsies.

Responsibilities
* Support the Registered Nurses by helping to start patients\' treatments, including recording observations on eObs and weighing patients.
* Place and remove cannulas at the end of treatment. Assist with patients having bone marrow biopsies and complete any required documentation.
* Take blood samples.
* Assist the doctor with patients having bone marrow biopsies.
* Provide refreshments for patients.
* Administer administrative tasks related to admitting and discharging patients.
* Carry out a range of clinical and non-clinical healthcare or therapeutic tasks under supervision, in accordance with assessed needs and care plans.
Note: This role does not currently meet the salary requirement for certificate of sponsorship. From 9 April 2025, the minimum salary for a Skilled Worker visa is £25,000 per year. While this role may be offered at a higher point on the pay scale depending on NHS experience, most new starters are appointed at the bottom of the band, which does not meet the new threshold.
Qualifications and Training
Essential
* One of the following qualifications: Level 3 (SCQF 6): City and Guilds 3; NVQ 3; BTEC National Diploma; or equivalent experience
* GCSE grade A-C (grade 4 and above) in English
* GCSE grade A-C (grade 4 and above) in Maths
* Completion of Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support (maps to the Apprenticeship Standard for Senior Health Care Support Worker) or equivalent experience
* Completion of the Care Certificate
Experience
* At least 12 months’ prior experience as a support worker
* Experience working in Haematology and Chemotherapy Clinics
* Evidence of ability to work as part of a team
* Good time management and prioritising skills
* Understanding and commitment to a caring approach to patients and relatives
Desirable
* Bone marrow biopsy clinic experience
Knowledge and Skills
Essential
* Effective and appropriate communication skills (written and verbal)
* IT skills including basic Word, email, and keyboard use
* Flexibility to adapt to change, able to work a range of shifts and move across wards/units as needed
* Awareness of healthcare policies and procedures
