Job overview

The post holder will support the senior clinical educator with the delivery of education relating to the acutely ill patient

Collect and present audit data.

Support staff in recognition, response and management of the deteriorating patient in the clinical areas.

Main duties of the job

To assist in the delivery of ward-based training and competency assessment. The overall aim is to enhance the early recognition and management of deteriorating patients. A major aspect of the role will be providing education to improve the recognition, escalation, and response to patient deterioration.

This is key to the patient safety agenda and essential to achieving the current and forthcoming CQUIN measures.

The post holder will be an integral part of the Acutely Ill Patient team. They will assist in the coordination of the deteriorating patient, inclusive of the sepsis work stream to promote the highest standards of clinical practice and improved patient outcomes at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

They will provide assistance and support to other staff while improving clinical practice, enhancing service provision and streamlining patient focused care. The applicant will maintain clinical credibility by working alongside the Critical Care Outreach team.

The post holder will network with specialist nurse colleagues for the purpose of developing practice, research, audit and development of standardised patient information.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria

1. Evidence of experience within an acute / critical care environment
2. Effective communication skills, both written & verbal
3. Ability to work within the boundaries of the NMC Code of Professional conduct
4. Commitment to the needs of the service including a flexible and adaptable approach in the work environment/work practices
5. Commitment to adhere to Trust Policies and Procedures and to contribute to and implement policies in own area and propose changes
6. Excellent IT skills

Desirable criteria

7. Experience using the Patientrack/Miya system
8. Working knowledge of CG50 Acutely Ill Patients in hospital, NG51 suspected sepsis: recognition, diagnosis and early management and NCEPOD on the right trach?

Qualifications

Essential criteria

9. Registered Nurse
10. Degree in nursing or equivalent qualification
11. Current registration with the NMC
12. Teaching Qualification

Desirable criteria

13. Acute Illness Management Instructor
14. Advanced Life Support provider
15. Masters degree or working towards
16. Attendance at the leadership and development and improvement programme ( days)

Experience

Essential criteria

17. Teaching or assessing competence in the clinical area
18. Experience of managing the care of the deteriorating/critically ill patient
19. Experience in managing change
20. Knowledge of national guidance within speciality area
21. Effective teaching, facilitation, assessment and feedback skills
22. Knowledge of audit and research processes

Desirable criteria

23. Advanced knowledge of audit and research with evidence of application
24. Knowledge of strategic issues which influence area of practice at a local and national level
