Job Overview
Consultant in Neonatology and Neonatal Transport (Neonatal Unit, Aberdeen Maternity Hospital, NHS Grampian, and ScotSTAR Neonatal Transport Service).
Position: 10 posts (4 ScotSTAR, 4 AMH, 2 SPA).
The post is based in Aberdeen Maternity Hospital (AMH) and Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital (RACH) on Foresterhill, providing specialist neonatal care to the Grampian Region and the Orkney and Shetland Islands.
Four posts focus on neonatal transport duties within ScotSTAR, providing the opportunity to develop expertise in this area.
The consultant supports the SNTS’s Northern hub, delivering care to Shetland, Orkney, Inverness and by fixed-wing aircraft and helicopter.
Responsibilities
Provide clinical leadership and expertise in neonatal and neonatal transport care alongside a multidisciplinary team of consultants, specialty doctors, ANNPs, nurses and midwives.
* Drive continuous improvement programmes within the neonatal unit and contribute to transport services.
* Engage in teaching, audit and research activities.
* Innovate and develop new approaches to neonatal transport within the NHS Scotland framework.
Qualifications
UK‑trained doctors with evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT, or within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register.
CESR or Portfolio Pathway route doctors may apply once specialist registration is awarded.
Doctors with an internationally recognised specialist qualification approved by GMC must have confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register.
Full GMC licence to practise required prior to starting the post.

* If the post operates within Aberdeen City Low Emission Zone, the consultant will be responsible for costs associated with entering the zone.
