The salary for this role is £39,610. Onsite working is expected for 3 days a week, however, we actively support requests for flexible working.
This role is based at Culham, Oxfordshire
This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data.
The Role
The Office of the Chief Engineer (OCE) manages diverse projects, maintaining fusion devices and supporting external clients. As a Technical Writer, you'll lead process changes, standardising technical documentation across UKAEA. You'll collaborate with stakeholders, support improvements, and ensure documentation meets organisational standards.
Your role will involve writing, reviewing, and editing a range of documents, from operating instructions, operation and maintenance manuals to legal materials. You'll gather feedback from stakeholders to ensure effective delivery and manage the Department's document library. Additionally, you'll develop standards and guidelines to align technical documentation with UKAEA’s brand.

Additional Responsibilities:
* Assist with planning, writing, and editing procedures, user guides, business documents, and contracts, ensuring all materials meet ISO, legal, and internal quality standards.
* Regularly gather and incorporate user and stakeholder feedback to continuously improve technical documentation processes and ensure effective delivery.
* Maintain and update the Department’s document library, ensuring accuracy and timely updates, while developing new document types as needed.
* Develop document standards and guidelines for technical writing, ensuring alignment with UKAEA's brand and best practices.
* Demonstrate strong results-driven performance by meeting deadlines and completing complex tasks to a high standard.
Qualifications
Essential Requirements:
* A degree/Diploma (or equivalent experience) in a technical, engineering, scientific or management related discipline.
* Proven experience working in a technical writing position.
* Excellent written/verbal communication skills and strong attention to detail.
* Proficient with all elements of the MS Office Suite and knowledge of using SharePoint as a document management system.
* Able to write in explanatory and procedural styles (including Simplified Technical English (STE) for multiple audiences.
