We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Plant and Materials Buyer to join STRABAG UK’s expanding Power sector, supporting the delivery of transmission and distribution projects across the UK.

Requirements:
* Provide market competitive procurement solutions for the operating unit which demonstrate best overall value for money.
* Provide an effective and professional service in the procurement of materials covering:
o Work winning supply chain selection for Bid Leader
o Construction stage project procurement for Project Leader, including:
+ Supporting the production and driving of the procurement schedule
+ Supporting the development of work package documents in conjunction with project teams
+ Work package procurement
* Support the supply chain management activities, including structuring the supply chain, carrying out performance and relationship management to drive improved performance/cost benefits.
* Support activities that generate and encourage an efficient, productive and continuously improving supply chain performance. Support the group procurement functional goals and objectives within the region.
* Ensure supplier evaluation forms and risk assessments are maintained.
* Providing a comprehensive procurement service for all projects.
* Deliver a consistent procurement approach across all projects within the region from work winning / pre-construction stage.
* Demonstrate best overall value for money in the procurement recommendations.
* Ensure a robust negotiation process is applied in the engagement process.
* Ensure contract arrangements and package details are comprehensive and protect the business in its dealings with suppliers.
* Ensure decisions are not focussed upon lowest price but overall best value for money. Support the development of an accredited and structured supply chain that is aligned to the regional demands and overall strategy.
* Input to the monitoring of the marketplace to ensure awareness of pricing trends, risks and opportunities.
* Continuously seek out and assess new supply chain members to meet regional project demand.
* Support the monitoring of the supply chain performance, workload and financial status to protect the corporate position.
* Support the development of the supply chain, products and innovations that bring cost and/or buildability benefits.
What matters to us:
* Previous experience in a procurement or buying role within construction, infrastructure, or utilities sectors.
* Previous experience within electrical/National Grid is desirable.
* Detailed knowledge and understanding of work practices, processes and procedures within the construction process from pre-construction stage and into construction stage.
* Good existing business network and relationships with the supply chain.
* Experience of running supply chain events.
* Experience with tendering process.
* Good product and supplier knowledge.
* Good working knowledge of contracts.
* MS package knowledge (e.g. Outlook, Excel, Word, Visio, MS Project).
