The Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust is looking for a dedicated and professional Security Officer to join our 24‑hour security team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for our staff, patients and visitors across all Trust sites.
About the Role
As a Security Officer, you will help ensure the safety and protection of people, property, and premises including hospital wards, car parks and outlying buildings. You’ll respond to incidents, support staff and visitors, and promote a calm and secure atmosphere across our facilities.

We’re looking for someone who is reliable, professional and committed to providing excellent service. You should have:
* A valid SIA Front Line Licence (Level 2) and SIA (PSS) CCTV Licence
* Previous experience working in a security environment
* Experience in a customer‑facing role, ideally within a healthcare or public service setting
* The ability to remain calm under pressure and communicate effectively with people from all backgrounds
Shift Information
Standard shift pattern: 2 days, 2 nights, 4 days off (12‑hour shifts). Please note, the shift pattern is currently under review and may be subject to change. Flexibility is essential, as you may be required to cover different hospital sites or provide cover during staff absences and annual leave.
Main duties of the job
* Security staff will be expected to maintain at all times a standard of personal conduct and deportment in keeping with the nature of their duties and the hospital environment.
* Carry out regular patrols of the site and report any incidents and/or damage in line with Local Operating Procedures.
* Protect patients, staff, visitors, contractors and any other legitimate site users’ property against loss, theft, damage and waste.
* Manage disturbances and escort unauthorised persons off the premises.
* Provide a ward/department presence in situations where patients and/or visitors are or potentially are violent or aggressive.
* Handle patients (including out-patients) on a face‑to‑face basis in circumstances involving violent/aggressive behaviour using conflict resolution techniques.
* When required, apply control and restraint techniques as per the approved Care and Responsibility criteria/training to fulfil the duties and responsibilities.
* Receive and log complaints of crime from patients/visitors and staff; carry out investigations when required of any loss or breaches of security and report to Supervisor as necessary.
* Provide security assistance as required in accordance with Trust Major Incident Plan, Missing Patient Policy and Major Non‑Clinical Emergency Policy and at the scene of road traffic accidents within hospital grounds.
