Multi-skilled Operative

Salary up to £37,597.46 per annum, plus, company van & fuel card
42.5 hours per week (8-5 Monday- Friday)
This role offers excellent earning potential, with out‑of‑hours call‑outs available in the evenings and at weekends, paid at £35 per call‑out, plus price work available by discussion.
About the role:
We’re looking for a reliable and experienced Multi‑Skilled Operative to join our team, supporting a busy responsive repairs and damp and mould contract in Peterborough. This is a hands‑on role delivering a wide range of repairs and maintenance works across social housing properties, helping to keep residents’ homes safe, compliant and well maintained. There is a strong focus on direct delivery, with specialist subcontractors used only where required for scaffolding and asbestos‑related works. Recent changes following Awaab’s Law have increased expectations around quality, compliance and aftercare, making skilled and dependable operatives essential to the successful delivery of the service.
Working mainly in occupied properties, you’ll attend day‑to‑day responsive repair jobs covering carpentry, plumbing, plastering, tiling and basic decorating. No two days are the same, so you’ll need to be adaptable, organised and confident working across multiple trades, while delivering a high standard of workmanship first time and providing excellent customer service. Duties:
1. Carry out day‑to‑day responsive repairs across social housing properties, including damp and mould‑related works
2. Complete multi‑trade works including carpentry, plumbing, plastering, tiling and decorating
3. Repair or replace skirting boards, architraves, internal door frames, doors, locks, hinges.
4. Install and adjust kitchen units, worktops and cupboard doors
5. Identify and resolve minor plumbing issues such as leaks, dripping taps and blocked sinks
6. Carry out patch plastering and make good to damaged walls and ceilings
7. Complete wall and floor tiling repairs, including grouting and sealing
8. Undertake painting and decorating to a professional standard following repair works
9. Ensure all works are completed safely, efficiently and in line with current standards
10. Work respectfully within occupied properties, considering residents’ needs and privacy
11. Deliver excellent customer service while working in residents’ homes
12. Accurately record job details, materials used and completion notes using handheld devices or job sheets
13. Report any additional works, safeguarding concerns or property issues outside the original scope
14. Maintain tools, equipment and company vehicle in good working order
15. Manage daily workload effectively to meet service level targets
16. Participate in the out‑of‑hours emergency repair rota when required
Role Criteria:
17. Proven experience carrying out domestic repairs and maintenance across multiple trades, including carpentry, plumbing, plastering, tiling and decorating
18. Experience working on responsive repairs and within social housing, including damp and mould‑related works
19. Full UK driving licence
20. Ability to work independently, manage your own workload and deliver repairs to a high standard first time
21. Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills, with a practical and proactive approach
22. Excellent customer service skills, with confidence working in occupied homes and communicating effectively with residents
23. Good understanding of health and safety requirements, safe working practices and compliance standards
24. Comfortable using handheld devices or job management systems to accurately record works completed
25. Willingness to participate in an out‑of‑hours emergency repair rota as required
